Dorian,
I have just started working on my Irish Burke's. According to stories from great Aunts, our Charles Burke 26 Nov 1831, Booterstown, I think that is near Dundrum, drown in the River Liffey, North Wall, 9 Nov 1881. There was an inquest but I don't have that material. He was descended from Sir John DeBurgo, second son of the Baron of Cennel Castle, Co. Limerick. Don't know yet how much truth there is to the stories. Church records says his father was also Charles Burke and mother Margaret Connor. He married Flora Mulligan at Ballinteer, Dundrum. My great grandmother, Mary Florence Burke 25 May 1871, Dublin was one their 18 children. She married David Joseph McEvoy 18 Sep 1894 at St Andrew's Church.
Another story is that Mary Florence Burke was named after an ancestor Lady Florence McGlynn. They were supposed to have lost the title because her grandfather married outside his faith.
If you came across any of these people, I would be grateful for any information that you find.
