According to an article taken from the"EASTERN NC DIGITAL LIBRARY"...
"In 1767, Captain Samuel Beatty of Dublin, Ireland, who owned and was captain of a sailing vessel which ran to American ports, including now Wilmington, NC, married BRIDGET DAY, of Langford County, Ireland...."
The article goes on to tell how Captain Beatty died in America. Bridget, his wife, came to be by his side, but he died before her arrival. She had left a son William Henry Beatty in Ireland who was brought to America about 1770.
Bridget Day Beatty had remarried to James White. In time, her son William Henry Beatty went out on his own, bought land, and married Sophia GIBBS, a daughter of George Gibbs. Sophia was raised near Lake Waccamaw, NC. A brother to George Gibbs mentioned was John Gibbs, who also lived in this same area...
IF this is a true story who were these Gibbs? Where did they come from?
Thanks for any help!
