Gees, this is such an old thread, but I am hoping someone will respond with new leads on Theophilus. As you know, we're having problems because of the various spellings of Theophilus and Winary. The various spellings are Theophelis or Theopholas or Theophilus or Thesppalies Davis to Munra, Winnera, Winary, Winnie, Winnys, Jane Scantlin.

Our family has examined the cluster of Davis's in the 1860 census. More specifically, Samuel, Martha, and Benjamin and the possibly Benjamin and Martha were married and the parents of Theophilus, Samuel, and (E)Alexander.

However, with time, it has been revealed that Samuel was actually married to Martha Patsy Keezee and Benjamin, who was blind, was living with them. However, if you look at the info on Samuel and Martha, you find they have only the one son, Richard. It's still a possibility that Benjamin is the father of Theophilus.

In the 1860 census, Alexander is a possibility as a brother to Theophilus since families traveled in clusters back then. I do feel they are all related, but just how?

Many family trees have Theophilus and Winary's son as John E "Butterhead" Davis. However, if the censuses were correct our John was born between 1843-1844. "Butterhead's" grave stone dates his birth as 12 Feb 1841. Although his childrens' names are similiar, such as Theophilus and Winerra, I'm still not convinced that this "Butterhead" is the son of Theophilus and Winary.

Has anyone researched this family further? I have found nothing in the family trees to lead me otherwise. Out of respect for these families, I earnestly believe we should sort this matter out.

If anyone can add new information on Theophilus, I would love to hear from you. Thanks
