Theophilus is my 3rd great-grandfather. I have been researching him, as well as my g-g-g-grandmother, Winera Munra Scantlin for decades.

There have been several theories about the identity of Theophilus's parents developed from the 1850 and 1860 census and Winery's parents.

It was first thought his parents were Benjamin Davis and Martha Kessee; however, with time, and because of the whereabouts of his cemetery plot, it is now theory that his father was Samuel Davis and Martha Kessee, who are also buried at the Davis Cemetery, Mt Judea, AR.

I am looking for a historian or researchers in the area of White, Newton, Arkansas that could direct me or assist me in locating any information on Theophilus while living in that vicinity. The only information we have on him is that moved from Missouri to Newton County around 1850.

It is also rumored that Theophilus was related to Sam Davis of with "Sam's Throne" - possibly a brother.

Birth 06 Jul 1819 Missouri, USA
Death 10 Mar 1864 Mt Judea, Newton, Arkansas, USA
Cemetery: Davis Cemetery, Mt Judea, Newton, Arkansas, USA
