Parents of James W. Daniel

Classification: Query
Surnames: Daniel, Harris, Slayton/Slaydon/Slayden
I found this biography in a book online titled "Montgomery Robertson Humphreys Stewart Dickson Cheatham Houston Counties TN 1887 History" concerning James W. Daniel:

James W. Daniel, a well-known farmer of Humphreys County, was born January 31, 1826, in this county, and is the son of William and Susan (Harris) Daniel, natives of North Carolina. The father, a successful farmer, came to this county at an early date, where he remained until 1845, when he removed to Arkansas, where he died in 1863. The subject was reared on the farm and received a limited education in the common schools. Upon reaching years of discretion he began farming on rented land until 1846. In 1865 he purchased the land of his present location and has since met with good and well-deserved success, owning 550 acres of land, of which 400 are under cultivation. November 14, 1845, he was married to Miss Rebecca Gibbons, and the fruits of this union were six children, named William T., George M., James C., John W., Mary M. (wife of George S. Bone), and Jessie M. Mr. Daniel is a strong Democrat and enlisted in the Confederate Army in 1863 as private in Company A, Tenth Tennessee Regiment of Infantry, and served until the close of the war. He was a participant in most of the battles the command was engaged in. Mr. Daniel held the office of constable in this county from 1880 to 1882. He is a Master Mason of good standing and he and his wife are exemplary members of the Christian Church and are respected by all who know them."

I believe this is a son of my gg-grandfather, William Daniel, who settled in Humphreys, Tennessee and is enumerated on the 1820, 1830, and 1840 census in that county. William came to Arkansas in approximately the same time frame as the William in the bio and died in 1865. His son, David C., went back to Humphreys County in the mid- 1850's and lived the remainder of his life there. According to the early censuses, William has several children whose names are unknown to me. The ones I do know are David, Susannah (Susie), Amanda C., John Wiley, Louisa Jane, Martha Ellen and Thomas Jefferson. Also, this is the first time I've heard the name of Susan Harris being a wife of William. In the bio of Dr. Thomas Jefferson Daniel, the wife of William is Jane Haney. I believe William must've married Susan and she died before 1840. Then he married Jane. The next mystery I've encountered has to do with Martha Ellen's parentage as entered in the Mallory Funeral Home records of Sallisaw, Sequoyah, OK. where she died. She married Thomas C. Billingsley in White, Arkansas. The record states the following"

BILLINGSLEY, Martha ALLEN, August 4, 1855 (Ark.) - September 11, 1924, d/o William Daniel (Tennessee) & Jane SLAYTON (Tennessee), Hanson Cemetery, page 284 .

Now it's possible Jane's surname was Slayton/Slayden/Slaydon and she married a Haney (or vice versa) before marrying William. I just can't find proof of any of this! Does anyone have anything that may help me straighten out the marriages of William? Also, would be interested in parentage of both Jane Slayton and Susan Harris. Thanks so much in advance for any help!
