I was wondering if you still have the Dalen Photo Album that you receive from your Step Mother. I don't know how I ever missed your message, but I guess it's better late than never. There is an Ole Dalen in my tree, whether it's the same Ole Dalen I don't know. He was married to a Torgerson, but the first name was different, but like everyone, the names changed a lot. I you no longer have the album, I can understand as your message is quite old.

Shirley

The parish church records for Tuddal parish in Hjartdal, Telemark, Norway include Johannes' birth/baptismal record. It agrees that his parents were Ole Hansen and Margit Olsdatter of Dalen farm.
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=5965&i...

The 1865 Norwegian census shows that couple on the Dalen farm with three children born before 1865 -
http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1865&...

The marriage record between Ole Hansen and Margit Olsdatter lists him as a widower (so there was an earlier wife) and Margit to have been residing on a farm called Stigen and her father's name was Ole Kittlesen (the spelling of the last can vary quite a bit locally).
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=5965&i...

Both of their birth/baptismal records should be in the Hjartdal parish records online.

The Norwegian book "Hjartdalsoga - Gard og Ætt - Tuddal (Band 1) by Gjertrud Kleveland Karlsrud should contain much more information about that particular Dalen farm and the persons who had resided there (probably beginning about page 430.)

Hi I have a picutre album of Dalens? from Minn, or Iowa or ?? The oldest name is Ole O Dalen, b Sept 22, 1865 married to Olena Torgerson, b Aug 15, 1873. Married in Minn. 10 children are listed. All of the pictures are unlabeled, but stem from the 1920-30's. I don't know who any of them are. I got the album from the death of my Step Mother mainly cause no one wanted it. But I will send it to you if these are some of your family. Perhaps you can identify some of the people in the pictures. My step mother was from Iowa...Redfield, I think.
If you don't want this album would you tell someone who might...and I will send it to them.
Thank you for your quick reply to my message. I think we have different Gilbert Dalens here. My Grandfather kept his name of Dalen. We have no Halversons in the family that anyone knows of. Your Gilbert died in 1902 which would be before my father was born in 1904! My mother and father (Ed Dalen) were married in his dad's (Gilbert) home in 1935. My dad was 27 when he married my mother and Gilbert would have been in his late 40's to mid 50's. My dad (Merriam Edmund Dalen) was Norwegien, German-Dutch and Scots-Irish. He passed away in 1977.
I will take your advice and go to the Family Tree Makers. This has been a frustrating search and I appreciate your information.
Thank you kindly

Hi Egil. We joined this on a trial basis. I found some of your names in the Minnesota Naturalization Records. Ole H., Ole Christiansin, Ole J., Ole H., Ole O., Halvor (Mrs. Thora), and Halvor. They are all Dalens. There were also several Johns. It only tells what county they applied in. This is all the info there is. The rest is on microfiche. I can find out how to get it for you if you think these might be who you're looking for. Pam Allers

Hi my father is Keith Bruce Dalen and his father's name is Richard Dalen. I am searching for that branch of the family. All I know is that Richard was born around 1925 (he was 22 when my father was born), was blonde hair and blue eyed, and his family was from Minnesota. He was a sailor and also a member of the navy. According to my grandmother, he died in a car accident a long time ago, but left her before my father was born. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
