Maxile Daire

I recently talked with an older cousin of mine and he told me that Maxile (my gr8 gr8 grandfather) said his father was white and was a slave owner and that his mother was a slave. i saw a copy of Maxiles death certificate on familysearch.org and it said his fathers name was Marshall Daire. I was told by a geneologist to get a copy of the original death certificate because sometimes the copies you find on different sites can be wrong. I cant find a Marshall anywhere but i keep running into Marcel. Once the dc comes in the mail i hope it puts my search to rest.

New Jersey - surname Daire or Dare in the Oranges

Martin J. Daire was born in Ireland in approx 1874, emigrated approx 1877, married Mary Heary 1898. Had a son 1899 (apparently did not live), daughter Mary in 1900?. He worked as a hatter. I have the family on the 1900 US Census in Orange, NJ. Then they vanish - but in 1910, 1920, 1930 census with the same given names, correct ages, similar location, but the last name spelled "Dare" appears instead. Martin has passed away by the 1930 census.

Children of Martin and Mary Daire were
unnamed son
Mary
Agnes dob +/- 1901
May dob +/- 1903
Loretta dob +/- 1905
Elizebeth dob +/- 1909
Sarah dob +/- 1912
Lavinnah dob +/- 1915
Margaret dob +/- 1917

In the 1930 census there's also a Sabrina, who may actually be Lavinnah.

There is a Joseph Daire in the same town, probably Martin's brother. He also married a Mary and had a daughter named Mary (and probably more kids).

Any connections there?
What a wonderful surprise! First time I see the "Dairy" name in all my own research. Ruth Dairy used to be my babysitter when I attended country school, Victory #3, Guthrie Center, IA. All the names listed were her siblings who lived and worked on their farm. I remember Ruth's kindness both in school and out of school. She must have been 12 yrs old in 1951 when I was 5 yrs. I also remember her next older sister broke her neck and had to wear a neck brace for a very long time. My family were the Carters who ran the nearby Spring Brook State Park. Write me at sharoncl@clearwire.net. Good luck in further search.
