1850 census in Springwater, N.Y. has Jane(Jennie) Dagggett living with Z(J?)edediah Briggs and his wife Betsy.Jane is 73 and Betsy is 43.In 1860, Jennie is liivng with Reuben and Huldah Daggett in Wayland,N.Y. I am researching Amanda Daggett who I believe is Jane and Reuben sr.'s daughter.Amanda married H.W.loveland and was living in the town of Richmond,N.Y.near springwater in 1850.By the 1855 census both amanda and H.W. are gone and all their 5 children appear to be living with relatives. any info on them would be appreciated.Their children are William N.,Loren T,Henry James, Joseph and Delia A.

I am trying to find Minerva's maiden name. Sure would hate to take the entire Fed census of Ohio on a page at a time.
My husband's grandmother was Laura (Lark) Robinson Cook. It was by fluke that I found her marriage records to Dana A. Robinson in Il. Her first known marriage was to John N. Smith, should be before 1st child-Franklin b. 1856 inOhio
1860 US Federal Census finds her in harrison, Winnebago Co. Il. John N. Smith husb 28 Ohio (1832)
Minerva Smith wife 26 Ohio (1834)
Frank Smith son 4 Ohio (1856)
William J. Smith son 3 Il. (1857)
Hellen Smith dau 1 Il. (1859)
Flora is born in 1862 in Il. Mary is born in 1866 in il.
Somewhere between 1866-1870, John N., William J. and hellen drop out of sight.
1870 Feb 14, 1870 Minerva Smith -m-Dana Austin Robinson;
archives marriage records Winnebago Co. il. reel image files # M870-0031
1870 US Fed. Census Burlington twp, Coffey Co. ottumua, Kansas. Family is living with Dana's parents
Austin D. Robinson 81 NY
Ann Robinson 71 NY
Dana A. Robinson son 50 Ohio
Minerva Robinson dau. in-law 36 Ohio
Franklin Smith step-son 14 Ohio
Flora Smith step-dau 8 Il.
Mary Smith step-dau 4 Il.
1870-Dec 15 Lark Robinson is born in Coffey Co. Il.in Greeburg, Kans. per funeral anouncement.
1872 Fredrick Robinson son is born in Coffey Co.Il. Shortly after Dana and Minerva divorce. She takes Fredrick and her other children by Smith and Dana keeps Lark. Dana had two dau from previous marriage.
Sometime between 1872 and 1880 minerva marries William h. Daggett IV. they are living in Silver Creek, Cowley, Kansas Kansas Roll T9-377 Family history film 1254377
I have no idea when she died, where she died and where she is buried, or if she was still with William. According to family, they think Minerva was a Native American. Story goes that Dana Robinson took dau Lark to Lamar by horse and wagon. Where she meets and Marries Jeremiah Luther Cook in July of 1890. Jeremiah did not want people to know her name was Lark so he changed it to Laura.
I did not know of her previous marriages or children, thank you.
I do not have any record that they had children together.
His line goes back to John Doggett of Martha's Vineyard.
Where did you find this information? Mary was the widow of William Smith, and they are my GGGG GP. They had 10 children, and I am assuming she was his 1st wife. Thank you! Judy Quinn

I read through this string and I can't tell if this was ever made clear;

The Supplementary Daggett / Doggett book clears up the Electa Furber Daggett question. Electa Furber Daggett was the great grand daughter of Darius 1760 1853 and Hepsabah Dean, the grand daughter of Darius 1796 1851 and Electa Tucker, and daughter of Darius 1820 1902 and Annie Mary Kenny. She married Willard H. Caswell.

Also, Heritage Quest is free through most all State and County Libraries. All you need is a valid library card.

Revolutionary War Records of Darius Daggett are listed on the "Pay" site of the Internet-under Rev. War Soldiers. Darius Daggett's is listed. Most of your Military records give listings of various Family information-sometimes including wife's name and marriage date-etc.
You can probably send to Washington and get copies of the Records-if you don't have access to the inter-net records.

Heritage Quest has access to the records and possibly the LDS sites-like Ancestry.com

Thanks for the info on Darius & Electa Daggett. Can you give me the source of the 1818 marriage in Chesterfield, NH and the Darius Daggett Revolutionary War service? I can't find that info anywhere.

In regard to Jonathan Close - I have been working on him for some time and have hit the same problem you have. There are some genealogies posted on the worlds connect section of Rootsweb, but they are conflicting in part. I can't get him back to Goodman Close of Mass.
In the 1855 NY state census of Jefferson Co. Jonathan is living with his son, Sanford, and declares he has been in Jefferson Co. 21 years. Sanford declares he was born in Dutchess Co. NY in abt 1817.
A post by John Pierson at genforum.genealogy from July 29, 2001 has a Close history that runs back to Goodman Close. I've tried to find John Pierson but he's nowhere to be found.
Jonathon's wife is also a problem. Some people have her as "Lois" Wetmore with a long genealogy back to England. But, in the 1850 fed census, the 1855 NY state census, and the online records of Smithville New Cemetery, Jefferson Co. NY, where she is buried with her husband, she is listed as "Louisa". Lois and Louisa seem to be the same person?

This is probably no help. If you find anything, please let me know.

Thanks.

My email address is shaslam100@yahoo.com.

The location of the sources for the information about Mary Daggett and Daniel Higgins are many...but mostly they come from ancestry.com records and the LDS Church records, including the pioneer records related to Daniel and Mary's son, Nelson Higgins, who became a Mormon pioneer. The records on him are extensive and, while I have not yet seen all of them, the records indicate that Daniel Higgins was Mary's first husband. I am still entering data...and hope to get to the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City in the next few weeks to see what other records they may have that will confirm the records I have found online. I know they have written family histories on Nelson Higgins and several other family members and I hope to get those as well as any other written records they may have that will tell a little more about this family.

I should mention that I am not a direct descendent to this line...I connect through marriage, but I am in contact with a direct Blackman family member and together we are trying to connect all of her Blackman notes to what is currently known about the Higgins and Daggetts. She is Sarah (Sally) Higgins Blackman's gr-gr-gr Granddaughter. Unfortunately, she has no real knowledge of her family history...and does not know how to do genealogy research. She is tracking down anything she can find on her family history and I am helping her with the genealogy research stuff.

I hope this answers the question you were asking. Please email me at my regular email address if you have any additional questions or if you want to further discuss this family. I am absolutely thrilled to find so many Daggett researchers who are willing to help with figuring out these issues...and I would love to find out anything more about these families.

Thank you very much for all of your help!
I only recently found Ms. Lundell's work on Nelson Higgins family history and I pulled off many of her family group sheets, but apparently Mary Daggett's was not one of them. I obviously overlooked this key data on Mary Daggett and have now gone back and pulled off Mary's family group sheet. I think I am going to print all of Ms. Lundell's work and put it in a binder for future reference to avoid this mistake in the future. I sincerely appreciate your help in pointing out my huge mistake! I should have referred to Ms. Lundell's work before I posted this query. Thank you very much for the help. I will try to be more careful in the future!

Mary Daggett b. 1786?? New York - Can anyone verify this date?? - Married Daniel Higgins

I am trying to verify the birth date of Mary Daggett possibly born in Charlotte, Monroe County, New York - daughter of either Mayhew Daggett or Abner Daggett and Esther Atwater and married to Daniel Higgins. Records found online at ancestry.com, familysearch.org and other websites are confusing and contradictory and I need help!

According to these many records, Mary Daggett was born 23 Mar 1786 in either Charlotte, Monroe County or Pittstown, Rensselaer County to either Mayhew Daggett or Abner Daggett...all records show her mother to be Esther Atwater. Most records indicate that her father was Mayhew Daggett but a couple indicate that it was Abner Daggett. These records indicate that Mary Daggett married Daniel Higgins in 1794 in Pittstown, Rensselaer County, New York.

Here is my main problem: IF Mary was born in 1786 and married Daniel Higgins in 1794...she would only have been 8 years old at the time of the marriage - I do NOT think is possible. Can anyone verify the birth date of this Mary Daggett??

It is my belief that Mary's birth date would be closer to 1776 not 1786 based on the following information: Her mother, Esther Atwater's birth date is listed as 31 Jul 1736 in New Haven, CT...I have not yet been able to independently verify this date...her father's year of birth is listed as 1730...IF Mary was born in 1776, her mother would be 40 years old and her father 46...if she was born in 1786 - her mother would be 50 years old and her father 56...while likely, it is more likely that her mother would have been the younger 40 years old at Mary's birth...Secondly, Mary's first child, Sarah Higgins, is listed as being born in 1795...IF Mary married in 1794, this is accurate...BUT it is unlikely that Mary would have born a child at the age of NINE! It is more likely that IF Mary were born around 1776, she would have been around the age of 19 when her first child was born - must more plausible.

SO...since there are conflicting locations for Mary's birth, I am posting here to see if ANYONE can help me determine the true date of Mary Daggett's birth. I am stumped!! It is my belief that the date that is listed in all of these online records are wrong and have been perpetuated based on one original record that was wrong and people have just continued to copy the wrong information.

If anyone can help me determine the correct date, I would be most grateful. Thank you very much for your help!
Have you checked Kay Lundell's work on the Higgins family?
From my source note:

Lundell, Kay, Triumphant Banners - Supplement One: The Ancestry of Nelson Higgins (Ogden, Utah: Kay Lundell, c1990, [88] pages, LDS FHL Microfilm #1597612), Family Group Sheet of Mayhew Daggett and Esther Atwater. Notebook of William Nelson Higgins. Supplement One traces the ancestry of Mary Daggett, the mother of Nelson Higgins (1806-1890). Nelson was the subject of Kay Lundell's earlier work, "Triumphant Banners".
The supplement's primary focus is on Mary's parents, Mayhew Daggett and Esther Atwater and includes their biographies as well as about 60 family group sheets tracing the Daggett and Atwater lines. The parentage of Mayhew Daggett runs counter to the 1894 genealogy of Samuel and George Daggett and hence to many of the genealogies submitted to the LDS and to online databases. See the notes on Mayhew Daggett (born 1730) for additional clarification. Ms. Lundell's sources on the family group sheet for Mayhew, his marriage and children are appended as detail in this database.

From her extensive research on the family I have Mary Daggett, b 1774 marrying Daniel Higgins in 1794, marrying second Abraham Studwell and dying about 1842 problably in Hancock, Illinois. Her father was my ancestor Mayhew Daggett. In any case you should get Kay's research.
Steve

No problem. I haven't looked at it in a long time but I have it in a binder somewhere. If I've got it right, Mary's father, Mayhew Daggett, was my ancestor. There are a lot of mistakes in that line but Kay Lundell seems to put it straight. My grandfather, who died in 1960, was Mayhew Daggett Mott. The name carried on, but alas, not past him.
Good luck, Steve
