We researchers of the William ENGLAND of Goochland Co., VA have long been searching for the first and maiden names of his wife. None of the records of this county show her name, so we know that she was dead by the time that William wrote his will (15 Jan 1768).

William and his wife had 10 children and they used the name ANDERSON for their son William. Some of their children named "their" children with the first and middle names DABNEY and ANDERSON.

With these names in mind, I wish to direct those interested to an article that appeared in the Feb 2004 issue of the "Magazine of Virginia Genealogy" (VA Genealogical Society), Vol. 42, #1, pgs. 22-34.

This is an article titled "Crenshaw vs. Trice" written by Barbara Vines Little, CG which covers a "Chancery Case" in Louisa Co., VA involving papers from the case dated from 1719 to 1804. It gives some informationon the ANDERSON family and involved a Dabney Anderson, son of William and Dorothy (DABNEY) ANDERSON. This Dorothy md. James TRICE after her first husband's death.

I know that the above Dorothy DABNEY's sister, Susanna, md. David ANDERSON as her 2nd husband and wonder if either Dorothy or her sister Susanna "might have had" a dau. named Susanna who "might have been" the wife of our William ENGLAND......all just "conjecture" on my part until proven or disproven.

Now, back to the above William ENGLAND and his "possible" connection to the DABNEY and ANDERSON families in this case....

Two of Wm. ENGLAND's dau.s md. PAGE boys in Goochland Co.:

James PAGE md. Mary Ann ENGLAND (my ancestors)

and James' brother

William PAGE md. Ann ENGLAND, Mary's sister.

James and Mary Ann (ENGLAND) PAGE named a son
ANDERSON PAGE (my ancestor)

William and Ann (ENGLAND) PAGE of named a dau. Mary Anderson PAGE and a son Dabney Anderson PAGE.

I know that the above explanations don't solve the ANDERSON and DABNEY problems in our ENGLAND family; but perhaps someone will see something in the article mentioned in the first of this message that fits with something they have in their files and they might be able to add to this discussion.
