7/4/2010 Just came across your post. I have been researching my husbands family from Luz. His name is Mello and grandmother was a Nunes. They are also related to De Sousa, Bettencourt, Rosa, and Correia. I would love to have any info you would care to share. Thanks!

My mom was from the azorez she moved to salinas california with her parents in the 1950's becuase of a volcano or something like that. My moms last name is Desousa. Not giving oout anymore information

Came across your post. Today is 9/27/08 and you posted in 2004. However, my great grandparent were from Luz. My great grandfathers name is Manual Souza Da Silva from Grasioso. My grandfather and family there after immigrated to Lowell, MA. and worked in the Mills on the river. I can get more info. if you want or need. I have an extensive family tree that was given to me as a gift that dates back to the 1700's..all Souza Da Silva. My email is

My name is Amanda Wehner Kennedy. I am conducting genealogical research for my mother’s family. I am currently looking for relatives from the Cordeiro/Santos and Soares families in the Azores. I apologize for not including many dates or islands of origin, but I have just started my research. I know that most of my family came from Graciosa, Flores and Terceira and emigrated to the US through MA and RI (many remaining to live there). My family migrated to CA in the mid-1950’s.

My grandparents were: Antonio RAMALHO CORDEIRO (b. 1902, Santa Cruz in Graciosa, Azores) m. Maria SOARES DE PAULA (b. 1905, Providence, RI)
