My grandfather came over here from Poland and I am told that he did spell his name czop. It was changed when he came over through NY to chop, and then my father became chopp. My dad said that my grandparents came from East Galacia. My grandfather's name is John Michael Chop(Czop). If anyone has any information on my family I would appreciate it if they would share it. My grandmother's maiden name was Pauline Seretna.
Thank you,
Jeanne

Re: czop family relatives
My maiden name is Czop. I live in Poland. But I don't really know of any of my ancestors living in East Galicia. My grandparents came from Podchojny (near Jędrzejow and Kielce) Unfortunately I know nothing about where their parents were born. If it was Galicia or not:-)

Re: czop family relatives
Hi Lidia,
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I had to find my genealogy work. I looked and found that my grandfather's father was Vincent Czop who married Anna Sorocka. My grandfather had a brother Steven.
My grandmother was from Tremblowa, Poland. Her maiden name was Seretna. Her parents were Michael Seretna and Mary(Maria) Stoyanowski or Stanowski [I have two spellings of her name]. I don't know if this helps or not.
My grandparents both came over here in 1912, but I was told they came over on different ships. My grandfather arrived in March 1912. My grandmother left from Hamburg, Germany and arrived in New York in November 1912.
That is about all that I know right now.
Thank you for your reply to me, Jeanne

Re: czop family relatives
Hi Lidia
Do you know if any of your relatives came to Canada in around 1906. Mine settled in Manitoba.
My great grandmother was a Czop. Her father was Jon and he was a widow when he came to Canada via Hamburg Germany with his daughters Tekla, Barbara and sons Sam and Sylvester. We also have anoher Czop (Chop) in our family tree - Kornolyo whose father was Andrew and mother Marie.
My grandmother came from Dubkiwitzi. Teklka was born in Rashtiwec. Are these places close to where your ancestors came from?

Re: czop family relatives
My name is Nicholas Czop and my grandfather was Boleslaw Czop. He listed his birthplace as Podchojny, Poland. He died when I was young but perhaps we are relatives? He visited family in Poland in the mid-90s.
Best Regards,
Nick

Re: czop family relatives
Hi Nicholas;-) If your grandfather's name was Boleslaw, and he was born in Podchojny, it seems that, yes...we are relatives:-) My father (born in Podchojny) had 4 brothers. His oldest brother's name was Boleslaw, and this Boleslaw emigrated to the US long, long time ago. He lived in New York. Is this where your grandfather lived? Do you happen to know his parents' names? Were they Stanislaw and Jozefa? And did your grandfather have four younger brothers (all of them stayed in Poland)? Did your grandfather visit his family in Wales, Great Britain in early eighties?
Best regards Lidia
