Surnames: CZECH, HALAVA
My great-granfather was Martin Czech. He was born in Poland in 1846. He married Anna (or Mary) Halava (born in 1845) They had 9 children. 7 sons; John, Stanley; Peter, Frank, Robert, Ralph, Mike and 2 daughters who were Bridget and Anna. I am trying to do a family tree and it stops with my great- grandparents Martin and Anna. (or Mary) Does anyone know what their parents names were. How many brothers and sisters did Martin have. What were their names? Did they also come to MN. And Martin's wife; How many sibs did she have? Did they also come to the USA and MN? What were their names? If any one can HELP me I would truly appreciate it!!
Thanks,
Mary Miller

Hi Mary,
I was born and raised 6 miles from Bowlus and went there many, many times but never met Martin. However, I do have a lot of info on th CZECH genealogy. If you contact me direct at the e-mail address above and give me your snail-mail address, I'll be glad to send you a packet of what I have (approximately 1700 names). And I would appreciate it if you would send me your list.

Now for a very brief lineage back from MARTIN, it goes like this.

1 Andreas Czech, b abt 1724 in Silesia, d Aug 25, 1774 in Dammratsch, Silesia, Prussia. Married MARIA, b about 1725, d 1765.

2. Blazius Czech, b June 9, 1756, in Dammratsch, Silesia, d Dec 12, 1813 in Liebenau, Prussia. Married Maria Kuka on Jan 30, 1781, in Falkowitz, Silesia, Prussia, daughter of Petri Kuka. She was born abt 1758 in Falkowitz and d May 19, 1816 in Liebenau, Prussia. (3 known children)

3. ANTONIUS CZECH, b Jun 9, 1785, in Liebenau, d Jul 12, 1855 in Falkowitz. Married ANNA PIETRZIK Feb 27, 1910, in Falkowitz. She was born 1789 in Liebenau and died Jul 4, 1825, in Liebenau. Antonius married EVA BRENNY September 13, 1825, in Falkowitz, daughter of SIMON BRENNY and MARIA SSURIN. Eva was born Dec 12, 1808 in Dammratsch. (Between the 2 wives, he had 22, yes 22 children, one of which was MARTIN, b Oct 23, 1846 in Falkowitz, Silesia, Prussia, d 1927, Bowlus, MN)
Martin married Mary Holeva on Aug 27, 1872 in Falkowitz, Silesa, Prussia. She was born Jun 24, 1845 and d Sep 7, 1919. Both are buried in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Bowlus, MN. They has 10 children (You missed Catherina).

I'm sorry, but we are obviously talking about two different families. The original spelling of Czech was Cech back to the middle ages. It never was more than 5 letters.

Hi Emily,
I remember my father talking about his Uncle John,
I think he died of a car accident in the Little Falls area about
1955. I do know some of John's children; like Leo, George, Tom, Frank, ( last 3 I
know are dead.) I have an old family picture of Martin/Mary w/ all their kids,
John was the oldest. I very nice looking man. Who of John's Children is or was your father?
Do you have a copy of the family picture?
Let me know! Thanks,
Mary Miller

Are you related in some way to a Czech family in Western Ukraine? I am doing research on that family and have found them in the town of Bolechow, with one member of the family who emigrated to England (now deceased)

What time span are you referring to? It does not seem likely unless prior to 1722 as that is as far as I am able to trace my direct lineage. However, this has been a very prolific family and some members may have moved around. My group came from Silesia which is now part of Poland.
