Greetings!
Glad to hear from you! I am the 1st great grandaughter of Julia and George. My father, Edward George Cholar was the son of Elizabeth Sosack and Michael Cholar. Am also trying to get info going farther back and not getting anywhere...yet! Just took a trip to PA this month and did some sleuthing with family. Saw the Sosack homestead land. My Aunt Velma has photos of George and Julia.
How do you relate?
Glad to find a cousin!

I'm the 2nd great grandson of George and Julia, through first sons starting with Michael. I have been to PA but haven't spent any time in western PA though. I'm interested in the picture you mentioned. I'm also stuck at Julia and George, I can't find an emigration record for them.

I took pictures of the photo that my Aunt has, and I think I also took photos of the old farm homestead area...now covered with very pricey homes.
Have about 16 rolls of film to develop. When I do, I will be sure to send copies to you. Do you have a regular e-mail address and can you accept attachments?
From my recent visit back home I learned that Julia Czap's mother was Susan Czap. Also, discovered my Grandmother Elizabeth's brothers were:
Joe Sosack
Paul Sosack (m. Irene 2nd marriage)
Michael Sosack (m. Margaret/ was called Mike)
Steve Sosack (m. Sarah / died about 40 yrs old)
I was told they lived in Industry PA.
There is an old family story about great grandpap or earlier ancestor being a valet "bootblack" to Kaiser Wilhelm. Don't know if there is any truth to this, but it might be an avenue to pursue.
I have done some searching on overseas web sites...
not too fruitful as yet. I am also told we come from the Carpathian mountains.
What stories have you heard about the family?
Glad to hear from you and hope we can find out more about these roots.
Would you like to converse on regular e-mail?

Here is my email address and I can receive attachments of any size: sosmack@earthlink.net

I have birth and death dates and places for all of George and Julia's children except for Elizabeth. Actually Michael was married before Margaret to Hazel Cook who had a son named Jonathon, who is my Grandfather and Margaret had a son named Joseph (half brothers). The children all lived in or around Industry, PA to my records.

The oldest living person in my family is my father(his parents are both deceased), and talking about family wasn't a good subject to bring up. However, I have heard from two independent sources that the Sosack's came from a small town in Russia. I have no evidence of this though. From my research shows they arrived in the USA from Austria.

I would be happy to talk by email.

Hello,
I was reading your info and was wondering what areas of PA you are researching? Do you think Czap and Capp are related? My great-grandmother's maiden name was Anna Adamick (also spelled Adomcick, Adamek, Adamcik, etc!), and her parents were Steve Adamcick and Helen Capp. Helen's parents were Steve Capp and Anna Petela (not sure if this surname is correct).
My grandmother's family came from Clearfield County, PA--they were from Austria-Hungary, but spoke Russian. I have also found on another census that they spoke Slovak. My guess is that with all the changing of borders in eastern Europe, these people never knew what land they were coming from! Also, I doubt the census taker was keen to the differences in the languages.
Steve and Anna Capp had George S. (1882), Nancy (1867), and Helen (1880).

anyway, I was just looking for a link, since I'm having so much trouble tracing this side of my family. I have more detailed information if this sounds familiar.

Hi Su don't know if this is much help or not, but George and Julia were my grandparents and Elizabeth was my aunt. Afraid I can't tell you very much about George or Julia since I was rather young when they died and don't really remember them. We did used to live on the "old homestead" and I can tell you that Joseph (uncle Joe) was married to Mary, and Steve's proper name was Stephen and he died at the age of 48 in 1963 when I was 15.
