Researching Czajkowski surname from Sambor area of Galicia, now Ukraine. Villages of Luka/Laka, Dublany, Bilyna Velyka, Horodyna and Tatary. If your Czajkowski surname has origins from that area, I'd be happy to share any information I've collected from birth, death and marriage records . Perhaps we could make a family connection. Collateral lines are: Kulczycki, Horodyski, Bilinski, Bandrowski, Czolowski/Czulowski and Winnicki/Vinicki.

My ancestors were Bilinski's from the town of Rudki/Rudky which is very close to Luka and Sambor. What info do you have on the Bilinski's?

Hello Geoff,
I have a collection of birth, marriage and death records from villages of Luka and Bilina Wielka that contain info on the different branches of the Bilinski- surname (Slotylo/Slotglo, Milkowicz, Grod, Tarasowicz, Kackienowicz). The records I have range from late 1700's through about 1890. The Bilinski's frequently intermarried with many of my lines (Czajkowski, Bandrowski, Horodyski, Winnicki, Czolowski). My 2nd gr grandmother was Christina Bilinska b. 1816 in Luka married Dionisious Czajkowski. She was the d/o Theodore and Eudokia Bilinski.
If you can give me specific given names and a general time frame, I'd be happy to see if I can find anything.
Darlene

Dear Darlene,

Are these Greek Catholic records? Have you come across a name similar to KRICHKOWSKI/KRICZKOWSKI/KRECZKOWSKI in them by any chance?

My grandfather, Wasyl KRICHKOWSKY, was born in Sambor according to all records I've seen. Rather it was actually the city or a surrounding area is not known to me. His birthdate on most US records is January 15, 1886 although his World War I draft registration gives 1884. Father's name is given as Paul on one record and Dmytro on another and his mother's name is listed as Sophie PAULEK on one record and Sophie CHOMIK on another! He died in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he spent most of his life after emigrating in 1908.

If these names seem to be in these towns you mention, perhaps I should order this LDS microfilm.

Thanks for your time,
Karen

Karen,
Concerning the Krichkowski and variant spellings surname and the records I have looked through: I do not recall seeing any listing for that surname in any of the records I looked at nor in anything that I have made copies of. I looked at records for Laka/Luka, Dubliany, Bilina Welyka, Hordynia and Tatary. These were all Greek Catholic records. Perhaps I missed seeing that surname but generally if that surname is within the village it tends to be repeated throughout the records because there usually was more than one family of that name connected to the village or the families tended to remain there over a long period of time. You should pursue the Sambor/Sambir records if that is where your information points to. The records are a wealth of information if you can locate your family among them and the family stayed in that area. I located not only my grandfathers baptismal record & seven siblings that were unknown to his American family, his parents marriage record and the baptismal, death records of his grandparents.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions. That's quite useful to know that you don't remember seeing the name KRICHKOWSKI in those villages you've researched.

Glad you had lots of success in finding your relatives.

Best wishes and happy holidays,
Karen

My great-grandfather Joseph Bilinski was born in Jezierzany in 1884. His father was Peter Bilinski, Mother was Carolina Fedoronoyez. Do any of these names match with you?

I find that there are 3 villages Jezierzany -one in Tlumacz district, one in Rohatyn district and one in Borszczow district all of which are quite a bit east of the villages I have records on. The closest I came to your Joseph Bilinski was for a Josephus Bilinski born 4 Aug. 1883 Domus 220 in village Bilina Wielka to Antonius Bilinski Milkowicz and Catharina Bilinski Tarasowicz. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
