Looking for ancestry for my nephew Christopher Romanyk. His paternal grandmother is Lewka (Eleanor) Czajkowski (not sure of the spelling) born in Sambor on June 5, 1904. She was born Austrian (Gallice ?) and changed nationality to Polish before she left the Ukraine - She was definitely always and forever Ukrainian. She emigrated to Toronto and married George (Yurko) Romanyk. We have no record of her parentage. She had blue eyes, black hair. Greek Catholic and was one of 5 or 6 brothers and sisters.

Wish I could be more helpful but the given name Eleanor didn't seem to be that common in the records od Laka and Bilina I viewed. Being that Sambor is 12 -13 miles west of these villages perhaps a branch of these families ended up there at a later date. Although not in your time frame of birth for Eleanor, I will list what I did find.
1. Eleonora b. Dec. 8, 1883 house 236 Laka father: Nicolaus Czajkowski Trunko s/o Gregori Czajkowski and Anna Bilinska mother: Anna d/o Michaelis Winnicki & Maria Bilinska
2. Eleonora daughter of Mathei & Maria Czajkowski Trunko had a son Michael b. July 3, 1890 house # 219 Laka. Eleonora was the wife of Joannes Bilinski Tarasowicz.
3. Elenora d/o Georgii Czajkowski & Joanna Tobaczynska had a son, Leon born Mar. 26, 1888 house # 109 Laka. Elenora was the wife of Josephus Popiel.
Sorry I couldn't help more.

I can not make a definite connection to your Jan at present but there were numerous Czajkowski families in Luka/Laka. Many brothers in the different families. If you are interested in sharing info please contact me at dmvoda@emcs.net. I have much info on the many Czajkowski's from that village including fairly recent pics from the village (2005) that have been shared with me.

Regarding your gr grandfather Jan, what time frame was he born in. My gr grandfather was Paulus Czajkowski b. ca 1849 according to his 1876 marriage record in Luka. His parents were Dionisius Czajkowski(b. 1817 Luka) and Christina Bilinska. Dionisius's parents were Joannes Czajkowski and Eudokia Kulczycka.
Paulus had at least nine children and possibly more. Dionisius had four known children: Basilius, Maria, Jacobus and Paulus. I suspect that there were several more children due to the large gap between those I have found, but I have not located any further records at this time.
Would be happy to share any info I have on the many Czajkowski's from that village. Perhaps we could make some kind of connection??? Contact me if you have an interest.

Have you any information as to who your Jan Czajkowski's parents were or whether he had siblings? Do you know if any other Czajkowski family members from your line came to America? I would love to be able to find something to connect some of the Czajkowski information I have found from Luka/Laka to Czajkowski families who also came to America.

Darlene, my apologies for not writing earlier. My Great Grandfather Jan Czajkwoski was born on or about 1850-5. He was married to Wiktoria. They immigrated to Galveston, Texas in April, 1897. They had 3 children, Rasa, Kirolina (Caroline), Antone, and Kizer. I remember Rasa and Kirolina as my great aunts. Antone was my grandfather. No one remembers Kizer and I continue to look for him and what happened to him after he came to the US. My Great Grandparents Jan and Wiktoria died in 1928 and 1935 respectfully. I would appreciate any assistance you could give me.

My Czajkowski line from Luka/Laka, Ukraine is: Nicolaus b.1890 s/o Paulus & Anna Horodyski Czajkowski. He was one of eight known children. Paulus (b. ca 1849) was the son of Dionisius (b. 1817) & Christina Bilinski Czajkowski. (Other known children were: Basilious, Maria & Jacobus). Dionisius was the s/o Joannes & Eudokia Kulczcyki.
I note that your gr grandfather, Jan would have been born about the same time frame as my gr grandfather, Paulus, but since I don't have complete family information I have no idea if they could have been siblings.
The 1873 cadastral (land) records for the village list the following as Czajkowski landowners:Anna, Ananiusz, Deoniz, Basyli, Jedrzej, Gregorz, Maria, Adam, Petronela, Marya, Michal, Nikodem, Elias, Mikolaj, Jozef, Demyter, Lukasz, Pawel, Jakob, Leon, Piotr, Jan, Onufer, and Mateusz.

We are searching for a man named Joseph Bilina. According to the application for marriage license in 1911 in Fayette County, Pennsylvania he was 32 years old. His parents were Martin and Mary. He had been a widower for three years in 1911. The woman he married was a widow with four children. Her name was Mary or Marie Vansacs. They were married November 30, 1911 in St Stephen Byzantine Catholic Church in Leisenring, Pennsylvania. They had two children, John (1912) and Anna (1913). By the 1920 census Mary is listed as a widow from Slovakia with her children Joseph, Helen, Steve, John, and Anna. All of the children are listed with the last name Vansach. Joseph Bilina's name is listed as the father on John and Anna's baptism records. They did not know their last name was Bilina until they were adults. We know nothing else about Joseph Bilina. Does any of this sound familiar? Thank you.
