My ggrandmother lived in PA, Wilkes-Barre and Vandergrift, before getting married and moving to Hamtramck, Michigan. Her name was Anna Czajkowski. She had a brother John and sister Julia that immigrated with her. There were other siblings born in the US. She married my ggrandfather Walter Turkiewicz. Connection?

Hello,

Her brother John was my grandfather. Other siblings born in the U.S. were Jennie, Stanley and I think Walter. My grandfather married my grandmother (also Anna), around 1915 in Vandergrift. I have a wedding photo of them. Their firstborn baby girl (1916) died shortly after childbirth. My mother (Bernice/Branislava) was born in 1918. My aunt Paulina was born in 1920. My grandparents divorced approx. 1931 or 1932. My mom passed away in 1995. My aunt is still alive - just went to her 90th birthday party. My greatgrandparents lived on Lehman Street in Hamtramck, as I did as well from birth (1946) until I was about 11 years old. I believe I've talked with you before quite a while ago.

Good morning,

I remembered seeing your response a while back but I am signed up on so many forums it took a while to find you. I have too many distractions to stay as focused on my research as I'd like.

I've gained some good information since we last communicated but still have a lot of blanks to fill in and questions that may never be answered.

Perhaps we have some things to share? In the last few months I've been in contact with a researcher in Poland that is also related to our people from Dobropole. Unfortunately he doesn't speak English nor do I speak Polish so sharing information is a bit slow. Thank goodness for Google Translator!

My mothers birth mother was Anna Czajkowski. My mother was born in 1933 and she was given up for adoption. Do you know if there is a link? My mother has always wanted to know if she had any siblings, can you help?

I am not aware of any children being given over for adoption. However, nothing is beyond possibility. It came to light a few years back that in another family line, my mother had a cousin nobody knew about. Turns out her aunt was already struggling to raise her first two children and apparently couldn't handle a third. He has since been reunited with his birth brothers and is now an accepted member of the family.

The subject of adoption or having children out of wedlock was taboo with the older generations and never freely discussed.

Do you have any further information to provide that might help make a connection? By 1933 my people had left Pennsylvania and were well established in Hamtramck, Michigan. My ggrandmother and gggrandmother were both named Anna. Throughout the course of research I have encountered other Anna Czajkowskis with no known relation.
