Czaja Family

Frank,
This is a 2nd reply-I don't know if my 1st one made it. Anyways, my great grandfather was Felix Jan Czaja, who came from the southern part of Poland, which was ruled by Austria. He came to the United States sometime before 1901. His port of entry is unknown to me. He was born in 1871 and had a sister named Sophia Wisniewski nee Czaja, born in 1874. I know of no other siblings, but I know so little of the Czaja family, I'm sure there were other children. He married my great grandmother, Eva M. Floryan, also of Poland, sometime after the death of his 1st wife, Anastazya, and before 1901, in Moodus, Connecticut. I don't know if you've traced any of your Czaja's to Ct, but there is a whole generation of Czaja's in Ct, which have recently passed on, leaving me with lots of blanks. any help would be great. If you have any information, please e-mail me. Thanks.

Kathy,
My Sophie/Sophia Wisniewski nee Czaja, was born "11 and 100 years" in Poland-(born in 1874). She died April 27, 1985; her last residence being in Durham, CT. I got this information from Connecticut vital records through ancestry.com. My grandmother had told me her father, Felix jan Czaja, had a sister that came over from Poland around the same time he did and that her name was Sophie. when I found the entry for Sophie Wisniewski, I knew this was that Sophie because of her birthdate and where she lived. I don't know how or when the Czaja's came to the United States. I do know that Felix, my great grandfather, came before 1901. Sophie being 3 years younger, could've very possibly have arrived later, with husband. Unfortunately, my grandmother has recently passed away and can't give me those answers. I do have a connection with another relative whose relatives came from a village near the Czaja village in Poland. I'm hoping she may know something.
If this is your Sophie, if you have any other information that you could share with me, I would appreciate it. Thanks and happy hunting! Pam
