I am seeking info on JOHN CYRAN, my grandfather, born on Dec.15, 1872 in or a round Mielec, Poland. He had, as far as I know, a brother Andrew and a sister Sophie in the USA,who lived in the Cleveland area. His brother Joseph returned to Poland, and never came back to the USA.

I am trying to get some information regarding my grandfather born Francis Garstka in Chicopee Massachusetts around 1895.
He was my mothers father and he died around the age of 40 and I believe is buried in Chicopee Massachusetts. My mother told me that he had a half-brother whose last name was CYRAN. Mr. Cyran was a priest and I was told eventually became a Montseignor. I was told that Francis Garstka graduated from Holy Cross in Massachusetts and might have been in the insurance business. I believe Francis Garstka died in or around 1935 in Massachusetts. My mother knows little about her father since my grandmother remarried. I am going to try to develop information about The Garstka family and if by chance Mr. Cyran was Francis Garstka's half brother or a relation I would appreciate hearing from you. Also if you can recommend to me how to proceed to develop information, it would be appreciated. If anyone else knows anything about Montseignor Cyran or Francis Garstka, I would appreciate anything you know.
Thank You

There were many Cyrans who immigrated to the northeast through Ellis Island in the early 20th century. Do you have any other information (i.e. date of birth, etc.) about Monsignor Cyran? Our Cyran side came from Teodorowka, Poland in 1907. My paternal grandfather's name was recorded John Cyran at Ellis Island. He married Julia Tabor and they lived in Elizabeth, NJ. Thank you for your time.

Before she died, my husband's aunt wrote up some family information that hopefully explains the Cyran-Garstka connection.
Here's what she gave me: Wojciech Garstka (born in Poland, probably in Galicia) first married Honoratz Soltys about 1875; she died at birth of Stanislaus Garstka (my husband's ancestor). Wojciech then married Viktoria Jedziniak, who also died in childbirth - child name Frank. I can't tell if he lived or not. Wojciech and Stanislaus (and the mythical Frank?) came to the US, where Wojciech married Katarzyna Cyran, a widow with three sons, one of whom became Monseignor Anton Cyran.
Katarzyna's maiden name was Frodyma; she first married a Mr. Jackym(sp?); then Mr. Cyran; then Wojciech Garstka. She and Wojciech had Frank and Sophie. I have no information about this Frank, either. Sophie married Marion Janasz and produced a child: Edward.
I believe Wojciech is buried in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Chicopee, MA , in the Cyran plot, though I have not been there. I have ordered some cemetery records; when they arrive I'll be happy to share any further information. If anyone has more information on this line of Garstkas, I'd love to hear about it.

I'm not sure when you posted this, but i know exactly the priest who you are talking about because he is my father's namesake. I think the priest (Anthony Peter Cyran) is my great-great uncle. If your grandfather was a Polish-American who is buried in Chicopee he is likely buried in St. Stan's cemetery on montgomery st.

Katarzyna Frodyma Cyran Garstka was my gr grandmother. I'm fairly certain that she was not married 3 times, but only twice. First Husband was Antoni Cyran they had 4 children Peter, Joseph, Anthony and Marianna. (It was their daughter Marianna that married a Jachym.) Their [Antoni & Katarzyna's] son Joseph b 18 Nov 1880 was my grandfather. Anthony Cyran, his brother, the Monseignor died at St Vincent Hospital Worcester MA following a stroke Sep 1933. Second husband of Katarzyna was Wojciech Garstka who died Oct 30 1895 and is buried in St Stanislaus Cemetery #12 Lot H 14 AB. Katarzyna died in 1928 and is buried next to him. They had two kids Sophie who died in 1963 and Francis who died in 1936. Sophie married Manuk Janusz they had two kids Edward and Pauline. Edward died in Ct in 1984. I have more info if you need it.
