If your great-grand father, George Cyr, is the father to Mildred, then you may have the wrong George. My George Thomas Cyr was born in northern Maine on 19 Jan. 1877, probably Aroostook Cty. He was the son of Joachim (James or Jimmy) and Leonie Fournier. He was baptised in St. Basil, NB, Canada the 20th. God-parents: Denis Cyr and Julie Fournier. St. Basile, NB was the area church even though it was across the St. John River from the French side of Maine. George and many of his cousins followed the logging to northern MN and so here we all are! We have a great history going back to France in the 1600's. George has Acadian roots and that is true of most of us from the NW portion of MN. Remember, "EVANGELINE" by Longfellow? It is fiction, based on fact...but that is OUR family! Brave, devout, people, who suffered many hardships including starvation, death and so forth. Our people made it through the woods to NB, Maine and Quebec. Contact me. Eager to know which of Mildred's daughters you decend from. deeann@mchsi.com
