Louis Cyr-Strongman and John B. Gagnon
Hello anyone, I am searching for information about Louis Cyr's family. I need his tree or to know who his siblings and parents were. I have information that relates to John B. Gagnon's mother being sister to Louis Cyr and John B. Gagnon (also a strongman) is/was my grandfather. John B. Gagnon married Elizabeth (Lizzy) Michaud. They lived in Maine. If anyone has a list of who Louis Cyr's sibling, etc. were it would sure be of great benefit to me in figuring out who John B. Gagnon's mother was and help me in figuring out who his father was as well and of course, etc., etc. Thanks, J C

Re: Louis Cyr-Strongman and John B. Gagnon
Actually, John B. Gagnon's parents were Sophie Levasseur and Louis Gagnon so Sophie has different last name than Cyr. Sophie could have been a half sister or perhaps her mother was sister to Louis Cyr or perhaps Louis Gagnon's mother could have been a Cyr who was Louis Cyr's sister. As you can no doubt see, I am having trouble sorting this out and finding out just how Louis Cyr and John B. Gagnon were related. Was Louis Cyr John B. Gagnon's great uncle? How? Anyone that can help, please reply. Thanks, J C

Re: Louis Cyr-Strongman and John B. Gagnon
I'm not sure if you are still looking for information, but I am fairly sure Louis Cyr was my (great-uncle?) from my mother's side of the family, if you are still interested in the information call me at (301)-922-0787, my grandfather is still alive and would probably be able to recall that information.

Re: Louis Cyr-Strongman and John B. Gagnon
I have a book called the "Cyr Legacy" and it has a picture of Louis Cyr and a couple of pages of a story of his life. If you're interested in seeing it, email me at m.sim@telus.net and I will send it to you. I am a Cyr but must not be from his line as I have been doing some searching and his name has not come up.

Re: Louis Cyr-Strongman and John B. Gagnon
I spent most of my elementary school years (1962-1967)living down the street at Lowry AFB in Denver from the five Cyr brothers who talked of their great-grandfather "The World's Strongest Man". The oldest started on the Hill HS varsity football team as a freshman. Raymond was a year older (but held back so in the same classes with me and younger brother Richard), and also runner up in the Colorado Ford Punt, Pass, and Kick for his age bracket and also in the over 100 Pound Division of Pop Warner Football on the Denver Athletic Club team with my older brother, while Ricky and me were on the under 100 team. The two other brothers also had 'R' names, the youngest I'm pretty sure was Russell, but I can't remember if Randle was first or fourth, or if Roger is the fifth name (or their father's name other than I believe it too started with 'R') because across the street lived the five May brothers and you guessed it, all of their names started with 'R'. No matter the season, though, we always had enough to make up two teams for anything, but only the Cyr brothers played Hockey.(There was also the Parkers brothers and the family next door had nine total, and I have two brothers. It was an interesting time and place. Then the Vietnam Conflict occurred.)
