I am looking for information on Mark Thomas Cvetnich who came to the USA in the early 1900's probably from Austria or Germany. Also, I would like information on Joso Cvetnic who came to New York from Bremen March 19, 1998 on the ship Friedrich der Grosse.

What would you like to know about Mark Thomas Cvetnich? How is he related to Joso Cvetnic?
|
Mark Cvetnich was my grandfather, and I have learned since my first message that he was born in Croatia, his parents names were Tomas and Barbara. The "h" was probably added to his name in the USA; he could have been related to Joso Cvetnic. I would like to know about the family he left in Croatia (abt. 1912), if others in his family came to the USA, anything at all. I know very little about his life before 1930.

I'm not sure who Joso Cvetnic' is or if he was related to Mark. How did you find out or hear about Joso? Mark was only 16 when he came to this country. His parents were Tomas Barbara. He was one of seven children, second to the oldest, as sister was older. All of his brothers and sisters are dead and he was the only one to travel to the US of the immediate family. He left his village on August 4, 1912 and never saw his family again. He did correspond with some of his nieces in the 1990's but with the country in turmoil he hasn't heard from them since the mid 1990's. Why all the interest?

As I said in my last message, Mark Thomas Cvetnich was my grandfather. I am the daughter of Otis Cvetnich, his son. Who are you and how do you know so much?? I found Joso Cvetnic listed on a passenger ship's list from Breman to New York a few years before my grandfather came to the USA. I was told that my grandfather first went to WV where he had an uncle whom, we think, was named Joe. I am in contact by email with a woman in Croatia, where my grandfather was born, whose last name is Cvetnic. She said the "h" was dropped later in the USA. So there is a possibility that Joso is Joe. Again, please tell me who you are.

I don't know anything about an uncle named Joe but a man he knew in W Va was named Joe Sedlock. When he first came to this country he went to PA and worked for Westinghouse, then later went to W VA. I'm a relative. I would love to have the e-mail address of the woman in Croatia.
