A brief history on "Cvetnic", an extract from "The Origin of Slovene Surnames", by Janez Keber published in Slovenija, pp63. I thought that this might help with those whose surname is Cvet or a derivation of it.
"Cvet: The surname Cvetnic originates from names or nicknames Cvet or Cvetni. It is formed with the suffix -ic and originally denoted "son of Cveto or Cvetni". The names or nicknames Cvet and Cvetni were formed from the words "cvet" or "cveten" meaning "blossom", from which other listed related surnames were formed in the surname process as well. Thus from the name, nickname, or surname Cvet, the following surnames were formed: Cvetan, Cvetanovic, Cvetanovski, Cvetaš, Cvete, Cvetek, Cvetic, Cvetko, Cvetovic, Cvetkovski with the suffixes -an, -(anov)ic, -(anov)ski, -aš, -e, -ek, -ic, -ko, -(ov)ic, -(ov)ski, -nik....the surname Cvetežar originates from the settlement name Cvetež (compare also the name of hamlet Cvetežnik, see Atlas of Slovenia, 310)...the extinct surname of nickname Cvetogoj is a compound from the words "cvet" and "goj", which derives from the verb "gojiti", meaning "to breed, grow". The original meaning of the nickname or surname "Cvetogoj" was thus "one who grows flowers"..."Cvetogoj" (see the Klevevž estate land register around 1306 and the Loka estate land register around 1318: Zwetogoy, peasant in Luša)."
