Re: Cuzzort/Kizzort grave markers in Marshall County, Al
I would be interested in the names and dates on these grave markers. I am a descendent of David Cuzzort who could be from Alabama or Tennessee.

I will be glad to get you the dates . I should go by there in the next couple of days. Those are unique names. I would think they are from the same family and one decided to spell their name differently.

There are many variations of the spelling. I have run across Cauzzort, Cuzzort, Cazzort and Cosort, all in my direct line. It makes it difficult to search for information. Thanks again for getting the names and dates for me.

Re: Cuzzort/Kizzort grave markers in Marshall County, Al
Cindy and Debbie,
These are all my people. Descendancy is David Cuzzort > James Cuzzort > Ben Cuzzort and William Kizzort (brothers). Myrtle was uncle Ben's daughter. Joseph (Joe) Kizzort was William's son, and my grandfather. My mother will be pleased to hear your comment about the flower arrangement, Cindy. I was unable to travel to Sweet Home for decoration day this year.
Most of the Cuzzorts in the southeast are descended from David, who had two separate families with close to 20 children total. To my knowledge, only a couple of them left the TN/AL/GA area: Jesse, to Indiana, and Richard, to Arkansas.
David's birthplace is sometimes listed as KY, which I think is correct. I believe he is the son of Jesse Cozart b. 1765 in NC, though I have only circumstantial evidence. If that link is correct, the lineage can be traced back to Jacques Cossart b. abt. 1595 in France/Belgium.
