I am looking for information on William Howe Cuyler, who married Eleanor Shekell, daughter of Samuel Shekell, April 14, 1803, in Ontario County, NY. He died during the War of 1812, was a land speculator in western Virginia ca. 1805. Philip Sturm

I am not related to William Howe Cuyler and his wife Elanor. They however built a cabin/home on a small hill behind our home in Palmyra, NY which is now in Wayne County. There is no longer a standing structure. Major Cuyler was killed at the battle of Black Rock (War of 1812)in what is now Buffalo, NY in 1812. He is buried I believe in the Palmyra Pioneer cemetery. He and Elanor had children and there are still descendents. The last I knew the family even had the cannonball that took the majors life. There is also information about him in the Palmyra Kings Daughters Library files. I am looking for photocopies of any picture (painting or other rendering) of either Major Cuyler or his wife Elanor. Do you know of any ? There is apparently a 'Cuyler scrapbook' with considerable info including a picture taken from an ivory carving of Maj. Cuyler.

I have an Eleanor Shekell buried at Monocacy Cemetery in Beallsville, MD.

She was born on July 21, 1773. She married Robert Willson on October 29, 1798 in Montgomery County, MD. She died on August 21, 1851. They had a daughter named Mary Tillard Douglas Wilson born in 1812.

I doubt this Eleanor could be the same woman as William Cuyler's wife because they married in 1802/03, right?
