My father was Guillermo Enrique Cuyar-Benitez born in PR in 1929. He and my mother were divorced when I was 5 years of age -- and hadn't seen him since then. He was married to Agma Cuyar - whom I do not know anything else about. They both lived in PR and have a son who came to the US to study back in the mid-1980s. I don't know his name or anything else about him. I would like to make contact with him. My father died in 1979-80s. I am curious about my heritage and what my father was like. Any assist would greatly be appreciated.

Response to Jennifer Cuyar

I am responding to a message you posted wanting information about your grandmother on your father's side (Cuyar). I am your father's brother - Marco. I'm not sure the source(s) of your information, but I can assure you that your grandmother was not into "black magick." Your grandmother was a devote Catholic who took her religion very seriously. Your grandmother raised 6 children by herself (with very minimal support from anyone), and did the best she could to keep the family together. Your grandmother was a great woman in her own right. Information to the contrary has apparently been made up to suit someone's delusional need to discredit.

My family is from Puerto Rico but it arrived from Barcelona,Spain according
to a ships manifest. Our Great,Great, Great Grandfather, Luis Cuyar was a
Colonel in the Spanish Artillery and was transferred to Puerto Rico. He sent
his wife back to Spain when she was pregnant and she gave birth to Luis F.
Cuyar. They returned to Puerto Rico and he married a girl of the last name of
Carbonell. From them came my great grandfather, then my grandfather and then
my father. The name is originally from the Asturian province of Spain
according to a search I made of the lineage from the University of Madrid in
Spain.
My family is from Puerto Rico and were primarily from th area of Aibonito. We are decendants of Francisco Cuyar who was a Colonel in the Spanish Artillery and was stationed in Puerto Rico. I live in the continental U. S. in South Carolina and have family here and in Puerto Rico. My father remembers many stories of the family and his grandfather who was the mayor of Aibonito. They also talked about Luis F. Cuyar who was the son of Francisco Cuyar. Luis was born in Barcelona, Spain and later returned to Puerto Rico.

Hi Mr. Cuyar, Thank you for responding to my message that was posted. My great grandmother Eleuta was from Asturias, Spain. I do not know exactly what town but she married my great grandfather Leopoldo Francisco Faza. I have found out more information on my Faza family but nothing on the Cuyars. The Faza family still has an estate in a small town in northern Asturias, Spain and the closest city's are Oviedo Gijon. I am going to try and find out what the town name is, my fathers cousin said it was no longer on the map of Spain due to the fact it is an ancient town. I would like to share some information with you that I do not choose to post on the inernet. Please e-mail me at Kimmarie74@aol.com. I will reply back to you as soon as possible.

Cuyar (1881-1966)came to the US (NYC) c.1893 from the town of Arriondas, Province of Asturias, (extreme northern)Spain. Closest large city is Oviedo. I don't recall the name Eleuta being mentioned when he spoke of his immediate family.
Hope this gives you some help.
