Cuvilje or Cuvelier family
A distant relative of mine on my father's side was Luis Cuvilje, said to be French or English, whose name was probably spelled by the Spanish as Cuvilje. He lived in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico in the 1860s and 1870s. Luis Cuvilje was major of Adjuntas in 1871.
He had several children but did not recognize them. They go the mother;s surname Torres. any connection?

Re: Cuvilje or Cuvelier family
I'm looking for other members of the Cuvilje family tree out there. I was born in New Jersey 1980 to Kim Cuvilje and Toni Harris.
Any relation?

Re: Cuvilje or Cuvelier family
Dear Mike, I just put in Cuvelier on a whim, and your name and the thread of an old inquiry came up. I hope this connects.
My connection to the name is through Adrienne b 1589 in Valenciennes France
married Guillaume Vigne ( de la Vigne)(william and variants) in 1608 in Valenciennes and She died in New Amsterdam 1655.

Re: Cuvilje or Cuvelier family
Greetings. This IS exciting. I've been rather dormant on genealogy for awhile. I don't believe I've had a Cuvelier connection. What is your link? Do you have much information?
Thanks, Nancy

Re: Cuvilje or Cuvelier family
I'm a Cuvilje.. I have not used the site that often, I tried to trace it back as best as I could but some time during slavery we took on the Cuvilje name. My grand father Oswald came over from the Dutch West Indies where he met my grand mother.

Re: Cuvilje or Cuvelier family
I am not the best person for keeping up with genealogy... I keep getting distracted with "life." I retired almost 10 years ago and had as a "first project" the translation of a book I ran off from the LDS library... called "Généologie de la FAMILLE CUVELIER d'Oresmieux 1535-1927"
Alb. Cuvelier-Verley (may be the author or compiler)
SocieéSaint-Augustin, Desclée, de Brouwer &Cie LILLE FRANCE 41, rue du Metz, 41 Lille 1927
It runs more that 213 pages, and I still don't trust myself tget this thing tranlated. :)
There are within this document some shields or heraldry and at the end a long list of names.
