CUVA
My father was adopted by some people named Carroll who last I heard were living in NJ. The only info my dad had was that his mother's name was printed on the adoption papers as Darcy CUVA. I believe CUVA was capitalized just like that. He assumed that CUVA was some sort of acronym that the orphanage used. There wasn't any information for the father. My father's records say that he is Irish. My information isn't very clear because I haven't spoken to my father for several years but I believe what I just wrote is pretty accurate to what my father told me.
Anyone have any clues? I've noticed other people print CUVA in capitals and I see a lot of "Living CUVA". What is that? Were there any Cuvas in Ireland? Possibly any "Black Irish"? Sounds like the most likely explanation is that my grandfather was Irish and my grandmother was Sicilian; they met in Jersey, had a kid, and put him in an orphanage. I am not a genealogy buff but I am now very interested in my ancestory. Especially since I had my son 16 months ago.
Please, any information would be greatly treasured by my whole family.

Yes Cuva Is Sicilian, but I have done a little digging and
found out it is a norman french last name. If you look in to history the normans were good vikings gone french and
in the late 9th thru 10th cent took over southern italy and sicily parts of north africa greece and what we now call albania. In 1066 they took over england wales latter ireland and scotland. I have found the surname cuva from finland and norway to mexico, spain, france, austria, swiss and one referance to a cuva comming to the us from Ireland at the turn of the cent. I guess we get around.
