Hi-

William is my g7grandfather- my guess is he came here from England or Scotland, possibly through Virginia. I have also been told that "Cutts" is from Cuthbert, England, although I have had no luck so far with that lead. I have started researching from UK >USA looking for his parents, if anyone has leads.

Sir John Cutts had descendants who ended up in the right area around the right time, but I can find no connection. Here's what I got:

gggggggrandfather: William b. 1753 (his father is unknown)
ggggggrandfather: Sherod
gggggrandfather: William b. 1797
ggggrandfather: Henry Avery Cutts
gggrandfather: William b. 1852 (Wiley)
ggrandfather: Jacob Jackson Cutts
grandfather: L.T. Cutts
my mother, and me!

There was a lot of marrying with Avery/ Avera girls... I have notes on all of it, but haven't posted much of it.

Thanks, Lhay

Hi Lhay,

Here is one additional Cutts-Avery piece of information I have. I have no direct Cutts-Avery marriages but the third husband of Phoebe Penhallow (the granddaughter of the Hon. President John Cutt) of Portsmouth, New Hampshire) was Hon. Dr. Thomas Graves whom she married 11 Feb 1739 in Braintree, Massachusetts.

The first wife of Thomas Graves was Sybil Avery, daughter of Dr. Jonathan Avery and Sybil Sparhawk. Thomas and Sybil married on 9 Sept. 1708. Sybil was born 11 Aug. 1683, and died 1 Nov. 1721 of smallpox.

Good Luck with your search. If you are able to connect your Cutts line to any of my leads, let me know and I can give more information on my wife's Kittery, Maine and Portsmouth, New Hampshire Cutt(s) lines.
