Hi, I am a Cutbush descendant and found your querie about Constantine Kensington Cutbush. His father was a Surveyor for Lord Kensington, and I think that's where the name Kensington came from.

I have William Snr as born 1790 in Maidstone, Kent married to a Emma Jane Bristow born 1836 (must be either a mess up in the dates or wrong woman) anyhow, she was born in Exeter and they supposedly married in Clerkenwell in 1852 (dates again!)

There are other Cutbush's from Kent who are clock makers of some repute. Then there are Cutbush's from Whitechapel with a tie up to the Mears family of Bell fame.

I would be glad of any other information you have on Cutbushes. Hope this has been informative.

Hi Gloria,

That is helpful - I was very curious where the "Kensington" came from. I am not familiar with the Mears family - Bell fame? Curoius - please fill me in.

It is not William ( Constantine's father) who was married to Emma Bristow - I have Constantine married to Emma. Annie Cutbush was their daughter who married Abraham Woodcock, making Contantine my Great Great Great Grandfather. I am afraid this is as far as I have gotten with the Cutbush line.
What is your connection?

thanks very much and great to hear from you!

Hi Cathy,

I have pulled up the "kinship" thingie, and I am not related, but the information was there to hand so I have added it to my tree as people unrelated.

If you go to www.casebook.org/forum/messages/4922/5571.html you will be bowled over at the Cutbush and other information. This will explain the Mears connection too.

Thanks for the correction as to whom Emma Bristow was married to. I am sure you have the marriage date as 1852 in Clerkenwell. Did he also marry a Louisa Dumbrill in 1874 in Brighton? Was Constantines Mothers name Sarah Elizabeth d. September Quarter 1849 in Clerkenwell (Vol.3 Page 150)?

Keep in touch and lets see whether we link up family-wise at an earlier or later date.

All the best,

Gloria (London)

Oh My Gosh!
Hi Gloria - eek! Jack the Ripper!! You know I have always been intrigued that some of my London ancestors had links to White Chapel - but I never assumed they might be related to the actual perpetrator! I barely glanced at it but will go back and peruse that page THOROUGHLY! Thank you for the link.
Oh dear - the name Cutbush seems much too appropriate if it is indeed true.

So you are not related to my Cutbush line?

Yes and yes to both of your questions. Constantine did marry Emma 1852 Clerkenwell, and married again to L Dumbrill and his mum was Sarah Elizabeth.

Now to get back to that fascinating page!

cheers!

Cathie,
Had to laugh when I read your mail!!
My Mom, God rest her, used to get really strung out at the mention of Cutbush. Her Mother was a Margaret Cutbush Meek, born in South Africa, but from JtR stock. Me, I feel nothing, it was so long ago and I don't think it was him anyway. Guess we will never know...........
Keep burning the midnight oil,
Gloria

Oh my Mum will be thrilled at the possibility - just for the intrigue of it. So your Mum's mum is descendant from T. Cutbush? And she knew about the possible link to JtR?

I found Thomas F. Cutbush in the 1881 census - the carpenter?
is that the right one?

no midnight oil here - it is just about 4pm. :)

I go back as far as Tom Flood Cutbush 1784 - 1846. I have no further information on him besides his marriage to Ann Sophia Cope 1784 -1841 and their six children.

I don't know whether my Mom knew about JtR, but it seemed like it in retrospect. She always asked me why I wanted to know when I asked about our family.

Its quarter to one a.m. here and I'm hitting the sack. Night-night.
