My CURATOLO relatives are from a town in western Sicily called Calatafimi. Is this familiar to you?

Our Curatolo line immigrated from southern Italy in the early 1920's, by 1935 1/2 had moved to Chicago where about 40 are still living.

Hi Robin,

I am recently married and researching my husband's geneaology as well. His family name is Curatilo, and upon speaking with his relatives in New Jersey they have mentioned that they believe it was changed from Curatolo upon immigration from San Cataldo, in Sicily. My husband's grandfather used the name Samuel Curatilo, and he was married to Sarah. I do not have her maiden name handy. They are listed in the US 1920 census records under Curatilo, and first settled in Pittston, PA. I believe they immigrated in 1905 (Samuel would have been 25 at that time), and they met and married on their voyage over. They had 7 children and eventually moved to Woodbridge, NJ. If you are interested in learning more about Sam please contact me at weinert@bsci.com and we can talk further.

My husband and I are planning a trip to San Cataldo this fall.

Best wishes,
Tammy

My husband's family name is Curatilo - it was changed from Curatolo. They are originally from San Cataldo, in Sicily. His grandfather Salvatore Curatolo immigrated in 1904, arriving in NY, but settling in Pittston, PA. He married Sarah Costa. I have his immigration record. Later the family moved to New Jersey. Tammy,
My grandmother Concetta (Jennie) Milazzo from Pittston, PA often spoke of the Curatolos. I am sounding this name out as she never spelled it for me. I am looking for relatives of my grandmother and grandfather Giuseppe Milazzo from Serra di Falco, Sicily. I will ask my uncle if he knows more about the Curatolos/Curatilos, he lived in Pittston.

Dear Pat,

Thank you very much for your reply - it is great to connect with someone who also has relatives from Pittston. Is Serra di Falco in the province of Caltanissetta?

Best,
Tammy

Tammy,
Serra Di Falco is in the province of Caltanisetta near Montedoro and San Cataldo. My understanding is that most of the immigrants arriving in Pittston arriving in the first half of the 20th Century came from these three towns, Serra di Falco, Montedoro and San Cataldo. Did your Curatolos have a trucking firm? I seem to recall my grandmother talking about people with this last name having a trucks or a trucking company.
