VIENNA – Edward J. Cupples, 56, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

He was born on March 11, 1957, in Warren, Ohio the son of the late Walter and Ann Carlin Cupples Sr..

He was a 1975 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School.

Edward worked as a pipefitter out of Local No. 225, Plumbers and Pipefitters Union of Warren, Ohio.

His family would like to give a special thanks to his caregivers at Washington Square Healthcare.

Memories of Edward will be carried on by brother, Walt (Deb) Cupples Jr. of Hampton, Mass.; sister, Nancy Cupples of Denver; brother, Bill (Margo) Cupples of Warren, OH; and several nieces and nephews.

His family will receive friends on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the McFarland and Son Funeral Home in Warren.
A Memorial Service will immediately follow
Inurnment will be held at All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta Twp. at a later date.

Arrangements are entrusted to the McFarland and Son Funeral and Cremation Services Co., 271 North Park Ave., Warren, OH 44481.

my Cupples come from Ireland and Scotland. I ran across a book that Joseph Ebeneezer Cupples wrote back in 1887 he seams to think maybe these were cousin of some kind. here is what he wrote in the back of the book Frank J Cupples born November 1887 in Lewiston Penn. Has told him that 2 brothers came from Dublin Ireland One was James and one (1) John. They settled close to Lewiston at a place called Jacks Creek Muffin Penn their (1) John married and had 3 sons and 3 daughters. He had a son named (2) John born 22nd of Dec 1799 an this was his fathers fathers (2) john has 4 sons an 2 daughters. I belive Robert is the father of Frank. Their is a little more but no name of any of the kids are mentioned Mollie Hosto

Hi, Yes, I do believe James and Keturah were brother and sister. Keturah Married a Thomas Delay and James married a Rachel Karney. Rachel died within about less than a year of marriage (I'm guessing from child birth or something. Not sure where James went to from there, but I'm guessing he remarried.

Death Apr. 29, 1843
Married to James Nov 23, 1842 in Ripley Co., Indiana

Do you have any information that James married a Jane? He's a dead end after the marriage to Rachel. He's not buried in the same cemetery, so I'm guessing he moved on to another state?

Bio of the Cupples family from Antrim, Ireland

The following is from "The History of Mifflin County" by Joseph Cochran, published 1879. This was written with the information being given by James Cupples' youngest son John.

"JAMES CUPPLES, SENR; - Came from Antrim county, Ireland, in the year preceding the revolutionary war. An English man-of-war gave their emigrant ship a severe chase, but a dense fog saved them from capture. He, like many others of the early emigrants, first located in Chester county. After his marriage he removed to Mifflin county, and settled in Derry township, in Dry Valley, on a farm which he bought of a Mr. Burns. He raised a family of 21 children, only 3 of them sons. Was 3 times married. The youngest of these sons, John Cupples, was born in Dry Valley, in the year 1800, December 22. Was married July 28, 1828. His brother James died at the age of 88, and his brother Robert at the age of 80, showing the immense, almost unprecedented, vigor and vital energies of their race. His descendants are 6 sons and 2 daughters, of whom ther are now (1879) living 4 sons and 1 daughter........For many years he has been a resident of Ferguson's Valley, where his influence for good and the well-being of his neighborhood are so generously exerted. Though of an advanced age he enjoys excellent health, and bids fair yet to remain long with us; and so may it be."

He had a brother Ortho, born Jan 18, 1893, Stokes Twp., Logan OH, who died 1920 White CO AR. Ortho Couples married Ethel Flannigan on Feb. 6, 1919, White CO AR.

Sherman G. Couples was born Nov. 22, 1864, Clark CO OH to Lorenzo Dow Couples and Minerva Jane Tingley who married Mar. 8, 1860, Madison CO OH.

Sherman G. Couples had four wives that I know. I don't have children for any marriage except Isabella Taylor.

Trying to determine if one of those wives was a Mary Gro/Groh. I found a will in Mifflin County from a Christian Gro (wife Margaret) who mentioned daughter Mary Cupples. Mary Ann (maiden name unknown) died in 1828, but Christian mentions his daughter Mary Cupples without saying she is deceased. James Cupples Sr's will is contested and one name mentioned is Margaret Gro. Does anyone have the full copy of the will or the estate records? you can email me directly at heirmail at msn. com.

Wilson Cupples - North Carolina via Tennessee

I have traced my family to Wilson Cupples (b. 1817, Montgomery, NC - d. 1870 McNairy Co, Tennessee). He married a woman name Annis Rickson or Aarnis Richardson.

I suspect his father is a Charles Cupples, but I have found no real evidence.

There is also a family story about a Native American in the family around this time.

ANY info is appreciated. I have found Wilson and Annis in other family trees, but have found incorrect info and errors and very few sources of information.

I've hit a roadblock here and really want to crack this mystery.

Emaline is in my family tree. She died in 1855 just 3 years after her marriage. I am dying to learn more about the cause and circumstances of her death. As far as I can tell, she did not have any children.

My Cupples great grandparents moved from Belfast to Port Glasgow Scotland about the 1880's. My Cupples grandparents emigrated to NY/USA in the 1920's.

I haven't got a firm connection established to footballer David Cupples, but am aware of him. My grandfather David Cupples was born in Belfast in 1865 and had brothers John and James born a year or two on either side. I haven't any information other than the belief that the whole family relocated to Port Glasgow in the 1880's. Grandfather David married there in 1893 and I believe brother John was listed in the 1891 census there. If you can tie to him, perhaps your grandfather or great grandfather...then we might have something to work with. Let me know !

I know that John was Married to a Martha Simmons they had 3 boys Jeff,Thomas,William (Boss),one daughter Della. Many years ago I had meet a lot of Boss kids when I lived at Stuttgart and they live in Dewitt but along the years lost contact with all of them Mollie Hosto

hi my father and i were reading your posts and my father william cupples, has told me that his father john cupples lived in port glasgow my father remembers having cousin called david cupples but this david cupples was a footballer who played for morton we are just wondering if there is a conection to the david cupples you are enquiring, my father william who is 69 was raised in royston in glasgow but rembers family from port glasgow and greenock area.

thank you for your reply my father doesnt keep to well and cant remember lot of names all of his brothers have died i do know my grandfather was john cupples married to helen ralston who went on to have my father and other 4 sons james, john, andrew and alec who died as a baby, i know my father has a bag of paperwork belonging to my grandfather including photos i will retrive this from my fathers house next couple days and be in contact with you many thanks joanne cupples.
