Aloha,
I believe we are cousins.
My greatgrandparents were Ah Moi Chun Cup Choy (Chinese Hawaiian) and Chun Cup Choy (immigrated from China, left a "first" wife and children in China). Ah Moi and Chun Cup Choy had 12 or 13 kids... one of them was my grandfather Henry Ah Hong Cup Choy.
When Chun Cup Choy immigrated from China the officials reversed his name so his family name of Chun became his first name and his first name of Cup Choy became the family name. I understand that part of the family has reverted to using the Chun family name but off hand I can't remember their names.
Chun Cup Choy and Ah Moi's children include (the ones that I can remember, in no particular order) Henry Ah Hong, Ah Ping, Auntie Babe, Rose, Vivian, David, Harold...
I believe my grandfather, Henry Ah Hong, was brother to the "Great Uncle David" that you refer to. Uncle David married Violet and had a son named David.
My grandfather, on my dad's side, was Henry Ah Hong Cup Choy. He married my dad's mother, Helen DeCosta (later Smith). My grandfather later married Kathleen Stinett. Henry had three children with Helen. They are Miriam, Lawrence and Zita Betty.
My father was Lawrence Henry Cup Choy. His sisters were Zita Betty Cup Choy Rogers(mother to Cindi Harris - who I believe you have heard from already) and Miriam. Zita B also has a son named Robert. Miriam had five children and I don't remember their names.
Lawrence Henry Cup Choy married my mother, Esther Ann Howard and then later Marilyn.
My brother is Bruce Henry Cup Choy and my sister is Zita Ann Cup Choy. My brother has a daughter, Brittany Lynn Kuu'ipo Cup Choy.
Apparently there is a Rochelle Cup Choy listed on the dean's list at Chaminade University this year in Hawaii, 12/02. I don't know who she is. See
