Guissepe Cuoco might be Linda Cuoco(Knight)'s grandfather's brother. And if this is so, he came over around 1896 from the province of Foggia, and the town of Candela. I am doing a report on my Italian Ancestry that is how I know this, and cameupon this site. Please email me about this matter, I would like to discuss my ancestry further. Email at o2mtdew02@ol.com

your message about giuseppe caught my eye because of YOUR name. after arriving in this country, my grandfather's name was changed from saverio cuoco to samuel cook, and I was wondering if giuseppe's name was changed to joseph cook????

saverio cuoco was born nov. 1882 in italy. his family had a vineyard outside of naples (didn't everyone?) the 1920 census form says he came over in 1905 and he settled in bergen/hudson counties of nj. would this ring any bells???

Hi, Diane - haven't had a message regarding my grandfather in almost a year. No, your grandfather's story doesn't ring a bell for me. Giuseppe's origin of birth is still a mystery. Even his children don't know where he came from . All I got from my Aunt Mary (his daughter) was that he came to Newark New Jersey from New York and that he had some step brothers. I have forgotten their names right now. I looked up Cuoco on the Mormon's websight and found three towns where a lot of Cuocos lived. The one that seemed the most likely was Candela; A town near where his wife, Angelina DePaula, came from: Ariano Irpino. I say this beacuse they spoke the same dialict. But this is only a guess. Today when I go home I will dig out the stuff that I have on the family. If you email me, I will give it you. Thanks for writing. Maybe some day I will finally find out where Giuseppe came from. Sincerely, George Cook.

hi george.....

thanks for the info. I'd appreciate any light you could shed on the subject, as I am as much in the dark on my grandfather as you seem to be with yours.

Hi, Diane - It's been a while, I know, but my fiance and I are moving into a house in October and things are kind of up in the air. (I'm still keeping my boat, but will change it's name from "Jen's Dad" to "The Dog House"....if you catch my drift.) Anyway, get ready! here is all the stuff that I know right now about my family; on both sides. I'll start on my father's side, the Cuocos: First, my grandfather, Giuseppe Cuoco. He was born on Dec. 27th, 1876. No one in the family knows exactly where he was born, but my guess is that it was in the area between Napoli and Foggia. The towns that came up with the most Cuocos in my web-search were Campobasso, Foggia, Caserta and Candela. Candela is the closest to the village that my grandmother, his wife was born. Maybe he came from there. All that the family knows is that he came to Newark, N.J. from New York, and that he also lived somewhere in Pennsylvania. He was also supposed to have two half-brothers. I was told that he changed his name because no one could spell, or pronounce it right. Who knows. My personal opinion is that his "shady" past is just that: shady. The only two children (that subject I will get to further on) that kept the Cuoco name were my uncle Jerry and my aunt Minnie. Now for my grandmother. Her name was Angelina De Paola. She was born on May 7th, 1885, in a town called Ariano Irpino. I don't know when, but I was told that she came from Italy to Newark, N.J. Here are the names of their children--my aunts and uncles--starting with the girls: Esther: married Nat Natiello. Two children, Elaine and Robert. Rose: married Nick Messina. One child: Dennis. Minnie: husband's name unknown to me. One child: Marie. Millie. marital status unknown to me at this time. will fill it in at a later date. Mary: married twice. First husband, Frank (can't think of his last name right, but I dso know it.) Second husband's name unknown to me at this time. No children that I know of. Now for the boys. Jerry (the one that kept the Cuoco name) . All I know about him is that he is a musician. My father and him had some big arguement long, long ago, and.....Well, you know Italians. And, last, but not least, my pops, Tony. Married three times. First wife (my mom) Gemma (Jenny was the name that she used) Cassaro. Two children: Beverly and George (me). Second wife's name unknow to me at this time. One child: Antonette. Third wife's name unknown to me at this time. No children that I know of. Now for my mother's side of the family. My grandfather's name was Angelo Cassaro. He was born in Trecenta. A town about 30 miles from Venice. I don't know his date of birth, but maybe my sister does. If so, I will send it to you. My grandmother's name was Angelina Santinelli. She was born in a town called Ferrara---a town located a few miles fron Trecenta. My mother, Gemma, was born on November 19, 1908, in Trecenta. All three came from Italy to Plainfield, N.J. around 1911. Starting with the girls, there was Gemma (Jenny). Married two times. First husband Tony Cuoco. Two children. Beverly and George. Second husband, last name Van Ness. Can't remember his first name right now. No children. Zelinda (Jean). Husband's name Steve Romanski. Three children. Steve, Michael and Dolores. Donato (Danny). No knowledge of him except that he died from acid burns. Elanda. No knowledge of her at all. Margarita. No knowledge of her at all. One of them--Elenda, or Margarita--was call "Ding". Maybe my sister knows for sure. George. Married to Rose. Maiden name and number of children, if any, unknown to me. And, William. No real knowledge of his past, except that he was a merchant marine, and was at sea for many years. Well, Diane, that's all I have right now regarding my family's ancestrey. Hope that this helps you. I will fill in the gaps as they come along. Sincerely, George J. Cook
