I got an e-mail on 15 Dec 1997 from a Richard
Cunard. He said his dad Kurt A Cunard was
born 29 Jan 1904, his uncle Wilhelm on 26
Sept 1902. Apparently you are his aunt Kate,
another brother was Reinhold. He said he
thought Kurt's father was Hans G. Cunard, and
they thought there might be a connection with
the Cunard Steam ship lines. Well, I have worked on these CONARD and CUNARD families for forty years, and there is no connection,
but how can I help you? Was Reinhold or Hans
the father of Kurt? Please clarify. Thank you, Erik P Conard--Denver

There were 2 Reinhold Cunards born in Danzig. The first (sorry I don't remember birth date) was the Father of Reinhold ,William, Kurt and Katherine Cunard. The first was a owner of a slaughter house/butcher shop in Danzig. During world war one he was a corporal in the German Calvary (some where I have a picture) he was married to Marie Faust who was a seamstress in Danzig who owned her own shop in which she designed and produce creations for both men and women in the local high society. My Dad, Kurt Alfred Cunard, was the youngest male child and at the age of ten developed Rheumatic Fever and spent one year in bed.

Reinhold (the son) married a lady by the name of Lucille (?) had a son by the name of Hans (English was George) born in Danzig and was the first of the boys to emigrate to the U.S. with his family and was employed by the FAA for his entire career. Lived in Indianapolis until his wife died and he returned to Detroit

William (married to Erna) was the second son to come to America, he joined Reinhold in Detroit and obtained employment as a model maker at General Motors where he stayed until his retirement.

Kurt left Danzig to attended the Berlin Technical Institute and graduated as a camera maker. After graduation he followed his brothers to Detroit where he met Esther Marie Schmucker and married (don't remember date of marriage). They had two children Mary Ann Cunard Neal (me) and Richard Alfred Cunard (previous correspondent) . He died at the age of 52 in 1956.
