I was e-mailed some info. on the Cunard
brothers in Canada, including Samuel. Please
e-mail me at hamilton@merlin.net.au and I'll
try to locate my references and pass them on to
you. I remember there being 5 or 6 brothers
including Samuel and Joseph who were in the ship building
business. The business went bad, but Samuel
persisted.

I am also interested in finding information about Joseph Hamilton Cunard (Cunarde). I know that he came to South Australia in abut 1854,directly from Melbourne, but unsure of where before that. He married Bridget Ryan at Mount Crawford in South Australia in 1854.
It would seem that Bridget Ryan's family came here before - probably from Ireland. It is unsure that Joseph Cunard was Catholic before he married her.
However, I would like to find where Joseph originated. He would have been born around 1826. His full name was JOSEPH HAMILTON CUNARDE.

I have worked over 40 years principally on the descendants of Thones Kunders (1652-1729)
He had a grandson Samuel and a grandson Robert, cousins, who went to Canada as tories
in 1783. I have lists of children of them.
They were born in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
Cunard, Cunard are not Irish names and these
were taken upon arrival in America, 1682. The Irish family you probably ought to search
is KENNARD, KINNARD or similar.
I have a complete list of Sir Samuel, eldest
son of Abraham, son of Samuel, son of Hery
son of Thones Kunders.
Somebody gave you a bum steer, but good luck
to you. Samuel, by the way, b 1787, was the
founder of the Lines--which they sold in 1870
and is far to young to have been your ancestor, and he was the oldest of 8 sons,
2 daughters. Have 35,000 desc. of Kunders in
my files. These are mostly Quakers, no Catholics except in later days thru the spouse. Originally CUN'erd, some have taken
ka-NARD' believing that more elegant...EC
