Seeking information on a Henry McCumbee or Cumbee that was in SC
until 1864-1868 time frame when he moved back to NC.
He was born ~1825 in NC, married Mary E. born in SC. His son Henry
was born ~1864 in SC.
I haven't been able to find him in the 1860 Census. He may have been
born in New Hanover County, NC. He may have also been in Ward's
Waccamaw Artillery during the Civil War.
It is possible that he came to SC to join the military (may have had
a brother Jacob in SC), married during the war and returned to NC.
He is in the 1880 Columbus County NC Census.
Thanks
Tom

I just read your message. Some of your information is very similar to information on the Henry Cumbee in my family. His name is Thomas Henry Cumbee but he must have gone by Henry. He was married to a Mary Simmons(I'm not sure of the spelling of her last name). Henry was born about 1825 and died about 1892. I don't show a son named Henry. He probably married about 1851, the first child that I show was a girl named Addie b. 1852. Our Henry served in 1 Co. G, 10 South Carloina Infantry and later in Capt. C. Gaillard's Co.(Santee L. Art'y) SC L. Art'y.
Henry's youngest daughter Hannah was my husband's grandmother.
I have found Henry and family in the 1860 census and Thomas and family in the 1870 census. I don't find evidence of them again until the 1900 census, after Henry had died. If any of this can be of help to you good if not oh well. If you have further info. let me know. Julia

I am doing some research for a friend and have come across a John Clyde McCumbee born c. 1829 in North Carolina (New Hanover Cty., I believe). Could this be the John C. who is possibly a brother of Henry and Jacob? I have also found a Henry McCumbee (b. 1824) married to a Mary E. living in Columbus Cty., North Carolina. I was wondering if he was a connection to my John Clyde (married to Mary Gainey) also living in Columbus Cty. in 1880 with his 3 daughters. Any further information would be greatly appreciated.

This John C. McCumbee sounds like my ggg-grandfather. I have no other information on him other than he was born abt 1829 and he was married to a Mary and he had 3 daughters - one being my gg-grandmother, Matilda. If you have anyother information I would shure love to hear it.

In my first post I failed to mention that all of the information I have about Thomas Henry Cumbee and his family is in South Carolina. His wife, Mary, is Mary Lofton instead of Mary Simmons. Not much, but maybe a clue somewhere down the line.
