+ A sad fatality occurred on the farm of George
McAuley, lot 16, concession 4, O.S., Melancthon, Monday afternoon. The timbers were being raised into place for an addition to Mr. McAuley's barn. Several men were lifting a girt into place when by some means it slipped from their grasp and fell to the ground below, a distance of about 14 feet. James
Culliton, who was standing underneath, was struck across the breast by the timber and borne to the ground. He managed to get up and make his way into the barn, where he rested on the straw for awhile. Dr. McCue, who was present, did what he could for him. Afterwards, the injured man made his way to the house, and from there it was decided to remove him to his own home, which was done, but he died a few minutes after arriving there. Deceased, who was about 40 years of age and unmarried, lived with his mother, sister and brother. The funeral took place to Melancthon R.C. cemetery Wednesday forenoon.
