Lucinda Culbertson + Robert Bryant, Bryantsville, Indiana

Surnames: Bryan, Briant, Bryant, Culbertson
This couple moved to Bryantsville (or it became Bryantsville), Lawrence County, Indiana, about 1829, from Kentucky. I am trying to work backward to find where they came from in Kentucky.

Local history seems to indicate that Bryantsville was named for this Robert Bryant. Our family also had a Robert Bryant, younger, living there, and family history claimed that Bryantsville was named "for the family". Robert, the younger, was not the son of Robert, the elder. The younger Robert's father was Solomon George Bryant, from Hopkins County, Kentucky. The two families may be related in some way, but I have not been able to make the connection.

A researcher of the family of the elder Robert Bryant also says the family claims that he was related to the Bryans who established Bryan's Station, Kentucky. I have also been exploring the Bryan family, because I have a brick wall named Martha Jane Briant/Bryant, born in March, 1772, and the Bryan family, specifically the family of Thomas Bryan, son of Morgan, Rowan County, North Carolina, also had a daughter, Martha Jane Bryant, born March 1772. Thomas also had a son, Thomas.

Thomas Bryan, the elder, was the son of Morgan Bryan. It was four of Morgan's sons who established Bryan's Station, Kentucky, and it has been suggested that Thomas Bryan financed the expedition, and may have gone along on one of the trips.

I have found no records at all concerning Martha Jane Briant/Bryant, except her name and birthdate in a family Bible, and that she is the mother of Solomon, that he and both his parents (his father was Robert Robertson of Augusta County, Virginia) were born in Virginia. Robert Robertson went to Red Banks (now Henderson) Kentucky about 1795 and wound up in Hopkins County, Kentucky, dying in Providence, Kentucky.

Solomon Bryant also lived in Hopkins County, Kentucky when Robert Robertson was there. I haven't found any record of Martha there, though there was a Thos. Briant.

Solomon Briant/Bryant moved from Hopkins County, Kentucky, to Orange County, Kentucky, about 1830, along about the same time that Robert Bryant and Lucinda Culbertson moved from ? Kentucky to Lawrence County, Indiana.

Can anyone connect Robert Bryant and Lucinda Culbertson to the place in Kentucky from which they moved to Lawrence County, Indiana?

Does anyone have definitive information about the naming of Bryantsville, Lawrence County, Indiana?

Can anyone make a connection between Solomon Bryant's family and the family of Robert Bryant/Lucinda Culbertson?

Can anyone connect either family to the Bryans of Bryan's Station?

All clues appreciated.

You might try Scott Co. and Bourbon Co., Kentucky.
In 1820's-30's a number of Culbertsons moved from these Kentucky counties to Indiana, many to Marion Co. where my ancestors settled. My ancestor, Joseph Culbertson, married Elizabeth Martin, I believe in PA prior to 1794; she died in Scott Co., KY prior to 1810 when Joseph married again. Any connection to your Martin?

No, I've never found out much about Robert Bryant's ancestors, siblings, origins, etc., which is what I was looking for.

Thanks anyway.

The Robert Bryant in the 1820 Lincoln census was living a few households from Susan Bryant m. Stephen Fisher 1804 in Lincoln Co, Ky. They could be siblings. Properly done, autosomalDNA might answer that question.
