Working on revision of 1923 Culbertson genealogy
Hello cousins:
I was elected as the genealogist of the Culbertson Clan and our project is to revise the 1923 Culbertson genealogy by Dr. Lewis Rogers Culbertson, M.D., of Zanesville, Ohio, as that genealogy is now 77 years out of date. We want to include ALL Culbertson descendants so if you have any updates on your immediate line, please send them to me for inclusion. I am especially trying to locate the descendants of female Culbertsons whose descendants were not given in the 1923 genealogy. Please send your information to:

Does the 1923 Culbertson genealogy include those from TN and southeast MO? I think my William Culbertson who lived in Stoddard Co. MO and who married Mary Susan Hall in Obion Co. TN in 1862 was originally from Ill, Ind, or ? Virginia Greene vcgreene@swbell.net

1923 Culbertson genealogy
The 480-page 1923 Culbertson genealogy begins with Culbertsons in Pennsylvania and Delaware, who quickly start settling in other states such as Virginia, North and South Carolina, Ohio, and Missouri. Then on to Minnesota, Texas, Montana, and California. Yes there are many listed who settled in Missouri. The problem with the book is that there is no index, so you just have to hunt through. The other problem (as with all genealogies) is that perhaps some families got left out because no one sent in family information on those lines. If I can be of help, please let me know. And, we would like to include your lineage in the new revision of the 1923 Culbertson genealogy.

My mother's maiden name was Iona Culbertson. Her father's name was Malvern Scott Culbertson. My grandfather's family moved to Geauga County Ohio from Wooster Ohio sometime in the late 1800's. I don't have all the family information in front of me but will be glad to send you more. I am also very interested in the Culbertson family and where they came from. Thanks Joe Eckerle

Hello Joe: I look forward to receiving a copy of your Culbertson information. My great-great-grandfather and a couple cousins settled in Scott County, Iowa after emigrating from Frnklin County, Pennsylvania. Are you familiar with the Rocky Spring Presbyterian Church at Rocky Spring, Pa.? It was built on my Breckenridge ancestor's land (he was married to a Culbertson) and many of the graves are Culbertson and Breckenridge, and the Culbertsons had their names on church pews. This church is open once a year now and I am told that on the Labor Day weekend this year the DAR is having a special ceremony there. What I think is interesting is that there is a monument in that cemetery to the Culbertson family, as the family that produced the most soldiers from the 13 original colonies in the American Revolution was the Culbertson family, with 44 soldiers. You might also check GenForum---Culbertson and RootsWeb---Culbertson for more information on the Culbertson family. Someone provided me with some names of early Culbertsons in Ireland in the 1600 and 1700s, and I placed a message on GenForum about those names---however, I am looking for the source of those names. Again, I look forward to hearing about your family.

My gg-grandfather, William Culbertson, was born in Ireland in March of 1850. He immigrated to US in 1865 and settled in Philadelphia. He married Bridget McDermott about 1875. She born in Ireland in January of 1853. They had four children that I know of: William, b. Mar 1878; John, b. Aug 1881; Richard, b. Nov 1885; and Nellie, b. Oct 1887. My great-grandfather was John Culbertson. He died in 1908 at the age of 26 and is buried at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Philadelphia. I am trying to find any connection to the rest of the Culbertson clan, but so far have had no luck. Does anyone have a connection? Thanks!
