Hello!

I am also looking for Hancock's from Vernon County, WI. George Washington HANCOCK, Sr. (b-1812 NY) married Eunice (unknown maiden name)(b-1810 PA). I am not sure where George died but I was told Eunice HANCOCK died in Vernon Co. WI on 2-15-1892. They had 9 children (most born in PA). I have all the names if you want to write to me. I really would love to know Eunice's maiden name and parents names!

If anyone has any information about these people or thinks they might be related, please contact me directly at Baleout30@aol.com.

Thank you!

Hi,

My grandfather was Francis McKinley Hancock, his dad was Frank Hancock, his father was Amasa Hancock and guess what, his dad was George Washington Hancock! This is great! Amasa was married to Culverson I believe. I don't know Eunice's last name, only way I found out was in a Gene pool analysis on the internet.

I've been trying to find out who's George W.'s dad is and also all of his children. Give me a call at 1-954=340-8726 so we can share info. I was born in Wisconsin and lived most of my adult life there, moved to Florida 20 years ago.
Maybe we can help each other!

Hi. My Grandmother was Pearl Hancock, sister to your grandfather, I believe. I have just begun my research, so any information you have about your grandfather's family/siblings, etc. you can share, I would be grateful. I can provide you with info on Pearl's family, if you wish. Thank you.

I see this message is from 2002 but if your grandmother, Pearl Hancock, is from Pulaski County Missouri, please e-mail me at danny.hancock@wildblue.net because Pearl would be the sister of my great grandfather I have been trying to do research on.

It looks to me as if the Vernon & Monroe Co., WI, HANCOCK families were related, since there are quite a few references to Pennsylvania.

A Bradford Co., PA, query on USGenWeb says that George HANCOCK had sons Reuben, b. 1830; Amasa, 1832; Ben, 1835; Charles, 1837; Mary Ann, 1839; Henry, 9 Apr. 1842; George, 1 July 1844; & David, b. 5 Apr. 1846, all born in PA; & William, b. 1851, WI. In 1850, there was a Reuben of the right age of El Dorado Co., CA. The rest of the family was in Wisconsin, but the birth dates of Henry & George don't match. In 1870, Henry's age, 28, and George, 25, do match.

In 1820, there was an Abner HANCOCK of Erie Co., PA.

Ancestry databases are not always complete, but I don't see any HANCOCK of Bradford Co., PA, until 1830, when there were Abner, Amasa (2), George W., & Jessee HANCOCK.

In 1840, Bradford Co., PA: Abner, Amasa, Elizebeth, George, Leroy, & Pliny HANCOCK.

In 1850, Bradford Co., PA, the eldest HANCOCK was Abner, b. ca. 1784. His wife must have been deceased. The entries are listed in order of age, not by households. After Abner, there were Amasa, 46; Delilah, 42; Plenney, 34; William, 30; John, 29; Lucy, 26; Saloma, 25; Jerusha, 22; Henry, 21; Mahala, 19; Mary, 18; Samantha, 14; Hannah, 13; Richard, 11; James, 8; Zenas, 7; Sully, 6; E. W., 4; Rebecca, 4; Eunice, 3; Francis, 2; Louisa, 1; Russel, under one.

RootsWeb: Abner HANCOCK, b. ca. 1784, CT, had son George (1812 {?}, Asylum Twp., Bradford Co., PA - 1870, Vernon Co., WI) who m. 1829 {groom aged 17?}, Bradford, PA, Eunice BARNES, b. 15 Feb. 1810, Asylum, PA. George & Eunice had son David (5 Apr. 1846, Bradford Co., PA - 9 Oct. 1911, Kingsville, Johnson Co., MO) m. 20 Dec. 1863, Burnett Co., WI, Lavina Ruth BRIGGS, b. 17 Sep. 1845, NY.

History of Vernon Co., WI, 1884: The first marriage in Kickapoo Twp. is not positively known. In 1855, Abner HANCOCK was married to Irena HARRISON, dau/o John, at the home of Thomas GILLINGHAM, Readstown, by Orin WISEL, J. P.

Feb. 19, 1862, Lt. T. C. ANKENY started on Monday for camp at Kenosha with recruits for Col. DANIEL's First Wisconsin Cavalry...(including) George W. HANCOCK, Jr.

The only HANCOCK listed in Vernon Co. Tombstone Inscriptions is Ida M. [HANCOCK] (1872 - 1927) wf/o Bart W. WOOD (1872 - 1968), Forest-Burr Cem., Forest Twp.

Yes, this is my family. A couple of years ago we were in Monroe County and located Amasa Hancock death date and burial site. He died at the poor farm and was buried there but later moved to another cemetery in Sparta.

Well, now - Amasa, child of George Washington Hancock and Eunice Barnes, was also the older brother of Benjamin Abner Hancock - who was my 2nd great grandfather.

It seems that Benjamin married Irene Harrison (another WI name) and they had several children, including Ella Mae Hancock - my great grandmother.

Ella Mae married George Washington Henry and among their children was my grandmother - Nettie Mae Henry.

I have a photo (with the name of) George Washington Hancock in my family's photos. I have attached a scanned copy.
