Cugini of Roccaraso (Abruzzi) Italy
My greatgrandmother was Felicetta Cugini (1863-1910). She married Guiseppe Giardini in 1889. Her two sons were Luigi and Umberto. Felicetta came to America with her children around 1901, settling in Milford, MA. She remarried Nicola Capaldo.
Any input from any relatives would be appreciated.

My grandmother was Carmela Cugini, Cugini was her madien name. She kept her name till she married Hayward Smith in the 1940's. She has 4 sons, Anthony, Joseph, Donald, Bill and Jim, she also has a daughter named Cecila. There are a number of grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. For the most part, she grew somewhere in Pennslyvania, I am not sure where. She lived in Cleveland, Ohio the rest of her life till she died in August of 1998. I am one of her grandsons. There are a number of Cugini's still in norhtern Ohio. IF I can be of any help please let me know.

Michael,
It's always nice to hear from a possible relation. I have relatives in Ohio, unfortunately none of them are Cugini's. Do you by any chance know where your grandmother was born?

Hello Angela, My knowledge of the Cugini family is very limited, but here is what I have. My great grandmother Felicetta was the daughter of Pasquale Cugini and Rosalba Guiliani. Felicetta was born in Rocarasso in 1863. She married my great grandfather Giuseppe Giardini in 1889. She bore Guiseppe two children Luigi in 1891 and my grandfather Umberto in 1893. Guiseppe died in Rocarasso in 1895. My grandfathers naturalization papers list the family coming to America on 21 February, 1901. I have not been able to confirm this with the National Archives. Family history has the Cugini family coming to America as a group settling in either New York or New Jersey. My first records of Felicetta in America surface in 1903 in Milford, Massachuetts, where she married Nicola Capaldo. Felicetta lived in Milford until her death of cancer in 1910. She is buried in St. Mary's Cemetary in Milford under her maiden name of Cugini. My grandfather talked of a cousin Ida, I belive from New Jersey. I never found out if she was a Cugini or a Giardini. If you can supply any additional information, please contact me either through this site, or directly at giaradini@fastdial.netSteve

My great grandfather and great- grandmother on my granmothers side were both from Roccaraso. His name was Ipolyte (Paul) Cucini, hers was Annina Stretsi. They had nine children, who went by Cugini, mostly living in New Castle, PA. I have relatives who live everywhere in between Warren, OH and Pittsburgh.
Giselda Bucci married Michael Frabotta, who had also married my great grandmother, Potensi Cariloni, the mother of my grandfather, Frank DuBois, SR. We believe the name was originally Dibiasio. I know nothing of Giselda's family, though I know a fair amount about her husband.
I'd love to learn more about the Bucci's.

Hello Angela, My grandfather, Michael Frabotta, was born in Rocarasso, Abruzzi. His mother was Anna Cugini. I don't know when she was born, but my grandfather was born in 1890. I believe his father's name was Ippolito, but I may be remembering that incorrectly. My grandfather married Gesilda/Giselda Bucci, also from Abruzzi. Her mother's name was Pasqua Cappucchio. My grandmother was born in 1892. They were married in Abruzzi in around 1914. They had one daughter in Abruzzi, Anna Marie, born 1916. My grandfather, grandmother and aunt immigrated around 1917, through Ellis Island. They settled in New Castle, PA. My dad and his other three siblings were born in New Castle. I know my grandfather had at least one brother, who left Italy at some point after he did, and went to South America (perhaps Argentina). I've seen messages from Mr. DuBois, and I know that family. My grandfather married his grandmother or great-grandmother after my grandmother (Giselda) died in 1929. I knew her name as Potenza Carle Frabotta. She raised my father, and she was the only grandmother I knew in that family. She died in May 1965. Hope some of this information helps. Have you found out anything more? PJ Frabotta Ramsay

Hi Tom, Small world! Is your father Bartley DuBois? He's my sister's (Corinne Frabotta Surano) Godfather! My dad was Patsy Frabotta, one of Michael Frabotta's sons. Your great-grandmother raised my dad, and was our grandmother (even though not biologically, to us she was our grandmother). I remember your grandfather, Frank. He was my (one of) my dad's step-brother. It sounds like you have quite a bit of information. I've been struggling to piece together some type of family history. Are you getting it from your family, or the internet, or where? I've been doing a lot of research on the net but haven't found much more than my mom (my dad died in 1984) already knows. There's only one daughter left from my Grandfather's family, and she was the youngest. Anyway, my mom thinks that you live in Ohio, and was born around the time that my sister got married (your dad was at her wedding in 1984 in New Castle). Maybe we can share more info directly through email? Patti Frabotta Ramsay
