We are researching the Swiss family CUENI originating in the Laufenthal area of Switzerland. Our primary interest are the siblings, decendants and ancestors of Baptist CUENI, born in 1763 in Roeschenz and died in 1821; married in 1796 to Anna Maria SEGGINGER. However we are interested in the genealogy of any CUENI family line and all spelling variants such as : CUNY, CUNNY, KUHENI, KUENI, KUNY, and etc.

My great grandmother was a Cueni but I don't know much about her. She was born in Switzerland on February 22, 1863. She came to the States in 1887 or 1888. I am trying to identify her parents but have had no success to date.

Terry:
We are researching the CUENI family, or one of them, originating in Roeschenz, Switzerland. We might be able to help you. But we need much more information, if you have it, such as first name, maiden name, and things like that. If you can, give us more information, either privately or here on the message board. We will try to match it with data we have.

I wish I had more to give you but I have very little to go on. I know her name was Leontina Cueni and that she came to the States from Switzerland around 1878/1888. After arriving here, she married my great grandfather, Alex Schneider, who was born in Bern, Switzerland. They were married September 16, 1888, in Colorado. Leontina died in October, 1922. If you happen to have any Cueni information that might connect, I look forward to hearing from you.

I have nothing in my records that comes close to matching your data. No record yet of any SCHNEIDER. If you know Leontine CUENIs middle name, it might help. But otherwise I'm drawing a blank.

Hi Terry
My great grandmother was a Cueni too. I'm
living 3 miles away from the village of
Röschenz where lots of Cuenis were born.
Isn't it possible to find out Leontina's father's
first name? It would help because I'm going
to the State Archives of Liestal to find out
several information (as the connection with
Marc). With her father's name I have good
chances of finding anything. Have you
already heard the name of the village of
Röschenz?

No one seems to know much about Leontina Cueni Schneider. Even her death certificate, filled out by her husband in 1922, lists her parents as unknown. My grandfather used to say that she knew how to yodel. I'm waiting to hear from some of my Mom's cousins in hopes that another branch of the family might know more.

More information about my great grandmother, Leontina Cueni (possibly Cunnea). She was born and raised in France, not Switzerland. She was an orphan raised by her uncle and grandmother. I am now trying to track down a birth certificate in an attempt to find the correct spelling of her maiden name. Wish me luck!

Hi Terry
Sorry, but I won't be able to help if
Leontina was really born in France!
Wish you good luck.
Sincerely
Dominique

Hello, my grandmother was Otilia Cueni, born
in Ohio around 1884. She married John Ilg and
they had nine children, 20 grandchildren, about
45 greatgrands so far, and about a dozen ggrands.
Although some are still in the Ohio area, most of
us are spread all over the USA with hotspots in
California, New York, and here in Arizona.

I don't know anything about her parents but my
mother has the names of her parents and her brothers
and sisters and also some of the cousins. I believe
that the family originated in Alsace Lorraine. That's
what we've always been told, anyway.

If you would like more information, write and I'll get
details from my mom.

Regards, Mary
