My great grandfather was John
cuddihy. This is the spelling on the naturalization papers dated Oct. 14, 1892 that I have . My mother says they used the spelling Cudahy. This is the spelling she is familiar with. His age at this time is unknown, only that he was under 18 and came from Ireland. Would appreciate any responses.

Surnames: Cuddihy, Cuddahy, Carr, James, Clampitt, Clampett
I have a copy of a letter, written by a John Cuddihy, to his son, Patrick, the letter is dated Dec. 5, l857, from Callan,
and signed John Cudahy...among other things, it states that
he, the father has no money, a sister, Margaret? is a nun...
in Philadelphia....some of the letter is unreadable. We assume that it was dictated, Mcnnans? The June, 1880
Minnesota State Census lists a Patrick Cuddihy, age
40, at that date...he was married to Catherine Carr Cuddihy,
age 40 in l880. They were both married in Kilkenny and lived in l97 Mississippi St., St. Paul, Minn, in l880. He was a
laborer. Can you tell us anything about John Cuddihy -Cuddahy aparantely the person writing the letter, didn't know how to spell the name, as it was dictated. We cannot always assume it happened at Ellis Island. Please reply.
Any information about the Carrs? Patrick Cuddihy was my
grandfather's father and they all settled in St. Paul.

My ggrandfather was a James Cuddihy whose father John came from Ireland to Newfoundland as a young man. This is the way our family spells the name although I have seen it spelled a number of ways. Please contact me to see if there is any connection between our families.
