My great-grandfather was Bruno Cuda. He came from Nicastro, Calabria, Italy, in 1900. His Father was Pasquale Cuda and his Mother was Maria Ferraro (I think). He was born in 1880, in Nicastro. He may have had a brother named Frank. If your Cuda family hails from there let me know.

I do not know much except for what was in my original post. Bruno was born in 1880 and came to America around 1904. In 1907 he married my GGrandmother and had to send to Italy for Proxies of birth and baptismal certificates. The "Casa Communale" that issued these documents was Nicastro, which is in the Catanzaro region of Calabria. Today it is a large enough town that it has a train stop, and it is on most maps that I have seen. According to those documents, his father was a Pasquale Cuda and his Mother was Maria Ferraro. Pasquale was a Laborer and Maria was a seamstress? The word in Italian was filomentricia or something ?) The church of his baptism is in Nicastro and I have a photograph of it and I *think* is San Lucia? There is no mention of Godparents, that I can recall. Bruno's children were named Mary, Rose, ( Helen sb. ), Charles, Anna, Antonio, Angeline, and John. I have John listed on his Naturalization Certificate as Giovanni. All of his children are now deceased and most stayed in the Pittsburgh, PA region. Charles (Chuck) moved to Florida with his family in the late 60's early 70's.

My grand father was Antonio Cuda from Nicastro, Calabria. I think he was born in 1898 and died 1969. He married Teresa Curcio. He had two daughters Grazia (my mother) and Maria. He came from a huge family. I do not know their names. He had family in Pa. Please e-mail me if you have any information. Reno_Bellissimo@bigpond.com.au

It seems that Cuda in Southern Italy is like Smith in America! :-) One of my Great Grandparents had someone named Raffaele Cuda witness the notarizing of the Proxy Birth Certificates in order for them to get married in the US. I don't know if it was a relative or not.
The Document is called Estratto Dal (Sal) Registro degli atti di nasci ta del Commune di Nicastro dell'anno 1880. Don't know for sure what it says. But I know that he needed it in order to get married in America and they sent for these documents in 1907 when they were married.
Your grandfather could most likely be a cousin. I have no info on siblings to Bruno Cuda, just his parents names.

My husband's grandparents were friends with Frank Cuda and his wife from Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., PA. Their names were Michael Francis "Frank" and Esther DeMarco. My mother-in-law thinks that Frank Cuda had something to do with tailoring, as her father was a tailor. Frank DeMarco was born in 1897 and died in 1991. Anyone see a connection?

My Great-grandfather Bruno Cuda came to the US in 1904. He would still have been there in 1901 My grandmother often mentioned that he had a brother named Frank. Perhaps they were cousins or Uncle/nephew? He was born in 1880 and his father ( Pasquale) would have been born 1850-1860. There could have been more siblings. There was another Cuda (in 1907) that witnessed the documents I have that could have been a distant relation. They are from Nicastro Casa Communale. Do you know what the wife was named?
