Hi, My husband's family lived in Pittsburgh, but also he remembers his grandparents living in Monogahela (sp?) City, PA. They were Fedele (Felix) and Anna (Annie) Pontieri. Hubby's family also changed their name, at some point, to Pontiere (yes, with an 'e' on the end). Since this is 4 yrs after these original posts, I'm hoping someone has more information on the family from their lives in Nocera Terinese, Calabria Italy. Thanks!

Suzanne

My dad's family were Pontieri's in Monogahela from Nocera Terinese.
Sometimes Pontiere was a variant spelling.
Felix came here to meet Nicola. The ship manifest says Nicola was his brother living in Lisbon, Ohio at the time. They moved later to Monongahela.
My grandmother was on the ship with Felix and married Nicola.

Thank you for the response. Do you have the name of the ship your grandmother was on and what the year was?

yes, i think felix and annie were relatives.
i am not exactly sure how.
did felix have a brother nicola (nick)? or dominic?
dominic was nick's nephew.
nick also spelled the name pontiere.
before dropping the e.

Domenico Pontieri arrived at Ellis Island on Aug 2, 1913 on the San Giovanni from port of Naples.
Born 1895 in Nocera Terinese.

I am not about his uncle Nicola Pontieri. He immigrated in the 1880's from Nocera Terinese.

Thank you for the information. Busy time of year for me, so I will try to follow up as soon as I can.

I have since found out that Felix was married twice, btw...more later.

Thanks, again!
