Kristen,

I am a g-g-g-grandson of Philip Whitesell and Sarah Cubbage. They were married August 16, 1813 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. They later moved to Cincinnati Ohio. Their son Philip Patterson Whitesell was born in Cincinnati on Dec 4, 1823. I will look through my stuff to see what I have. I would love to trade info with you. I know very little about Philip other than he served in the War of 1812 and was the pilot of a steam ship on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. His ship may have been the Phoebus but we have not been able to prove it.

George,
It is with great interest that I read your post regarding the name Whitesell. In my lineage, I have a Whitisell Kendall Cubbage, b. 1831 in Hamilton Co., Kentucky, the son of George Cubbage and Martha Kendall. George b. 1791 in Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania, and died in Ohio, buried "outside of Cinncinatti". One of Whitisell's grandson's also carried the name. He was Ed Whitisell Cubbage. I'm just wondering if there is any connection here? Such a strange combination of names to not be related in someway.
Most sincerely,
Jodi

Hi Jodi,

I do have a George Cubbage, son of William and Sarah Cubbage. I do not know Sarah’s maiden name or their birth or death dates. I have the children of George Sarah Cubbage as Mary b. Nov. 5, 1796 – d. Oct 10, 1864, Sarah b. Nov. 3, 1799 – d. Oct 6, 1858, and Martha, Samuel, John, George and William of which I do not have any information. Let me know if you think this George Cubbage may be the one you mention as marrying Martha Kendall.

The Sarah Cubbage born November 5, 1796 married my g-g-grandfather Philip Whitesell. Philip and Sarah did move from Allegheny County, PA to Cincinnati, Ohio. Philip is said to have piloted a steamship on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. I agree with you that the combination of names does seem to indicate a relationship. Hi Jodi,

THIS IS A CORRECTION to the reply I posted a few minutes ago. Philip Whitesell and Sarah Cubbage were my great-great-great-grandparents. I missed a great in the previous posting. Sorry about that!

Hi George,

I have to apologize that I have jumped in on a whim and do not have my info in front of me. I have a Cubbage/Whitesell union in Allegheny County in my direct lineage. Whitesell, they say, has morphed from Witz, Witzel, etc. from Germany. When I first looked them up, Ancestry.com showed a lineage to Richard Nixon, US president, but, when I looked up Richard Nixon's lineage on other sites, I could not find the Whitesells. Do you know?

This thread is interesting. I have George Cubbage b. 15 Jul 1791 Robinson Township, Allegheny County, PA d. 15 Mar 1849 Hamilton County, OH. My notes for him are: "Served in War of 1812 (Warren County, Ohio - Captain Martin Bond's Regiment). His widow was granted property in Grayson County, KY due to his service in War of 1812. 1830 census shows he was living in Sycamore Township, Hamilton County, Ohio: 2 males age 0-5, 2 males age 10-15, 1 male age 40-50, 1 female age 5-10, 1 female age 10-15, 1 female age 40-50. Listed in 1832 Warren Co., Ohio Property Tax List. 1835 State Census shows living in Washington Township, Miami Co., OH. Note: Washington Township, Miami County, Ohio dates to 1807 and is on the west bank of the Great Miami River, with its northern border being the Miami-Shelby County Line. It is bordered on the west by Newberry Township and on the south by Concord Township. The main Indian village of the Old Northwest was in what is now this township. 1840 United States Federal Census shows living in Plain, Franklin County, Ohio."

After he died in 1849 his widow, Mary Martha Kindle (b. 15 Mar 1790 Warren County, OH) and children moved to KY - 1860 census shows them living in Lockport, Henry County, KY.

I have ten children from the above union and their 8th child is named Whitsell Kindle Cubbage b. 14 Feb 1831.

I have accurate info about the descendants of this George Cubbage and wife, Mary Martha Kindle. I do not have the parents of this George Cubbage but it appears he is probably the George Cubbage mentioned in this thread and I would love to be able to prove that some way. As Gonefishin said in this thread, the name Whitsell was also used later in this tree. I would like to share and trade info. Please contact me. charlesleach@comcast.net

Hi,

I am looking for the parents of Mary Cubbage, (born 1794) married George Whitsell, and is buried in Monroeville, PA. I also found the Nixon lineage in the beginning, but, they stopped allowing connections with famous (or infamous) folks. I may still have a print out in about 20 years of disorganized paperwork. The Whitsell family that is my line, lived in the Wildwood Road area close to where my Grandfather used to own the Wildwood Swimming pool, near North Park. I will keep searching for Mary Cubbage Whitsell's folks. I also found the morphing of the name.
