Tigua Indians - Ysleta del Sur
FYI The Tigua Indians were at Ysleta del Sur (El Paso). There are many records, books, etc...about these Indians at
University of Texas at El Paso - Library Special Collections
University of Texas at Austin (Center for American History)
You can also look at some available materials at their web sites.
Also, a great book about the Tigua's history is The Tigua Indians: Pueblo Indians of Texas by Bill Wright.

Maggie: How do we know that the Cuaron family is Tigua? I am really interested in this. One my other cousins,Raymond Apodaca was Governor of the Tiguas from 1990-92. I have never met Raymond, but did meet his father, Juan who died several years ago in Las Cruces. I have read the book on the Tiguas but that was before I knew I was Tigua. Thanks for your information Corina

Corina, Read message #6, 3 Feb. I have not seen any documentation to the fact. Only the statement from the Enrollment section at the Mission in Ysleta del Sur. If you want to follow this up contact:
Yvette Lujan - (915) 859-7913.
I have a request into the U Texas at El Paso (to see if what Yvette says is true (and provide the documentation). What I receive, I will provide on this forum.
This is what they have in the UTEP archives.
...published census from 1840 for Ysleta del Sur, several untranscribed oral history collections, copies on microfilm of the supporting documents for the Tiguas' claim for tribal recognition, and some older photographs contained within the Cleofas Calleros papers. We also have the Cd. Juarez Municipal Archives on microfilm, and they do have several early censuses and other documents relating to Ysleta within them. Greetings:
I Am Tony Chavez, the son of Al "Fito" Lino Chavez, of Mesilla, NM, and Romelia Gonzales Chavez, of Las Cruces, NM. Romelia's mother was Maria Apodaca, who had Jose and Francisco, as brothers, and Maggie Chelo were sisters, among others. Maria Apodaca's parents were Gabriel Apodaca and Catalina Cordero, of Ysleta, Tx. .I have seen old postings on this board that sound like relatives my oldest brother Santiago (Jimmy) has spoken of. We all live in Whitter, Ca. now, and we would love to hear from anyone in the family. Thank You. tony

I was born in Las Cruces NM. My father also has other kids in Las Cruces, Estella, Rosella,Sandie and Jerry ( but I dont know where he is at this time). My dad was also married to my mom which is Naomi and then he married Teresa "Vivi" they call her. She still lives in Las Cruces. I'm here in Baldwin Park, I have also been searching for familly members. My mom says that there is a Zamora last name I think for Margarita which is one of my dads sisters. Hi Corina Not all Cuaron's are Indians but some are. For example, several documents (e.g., birth certificate from Ysleta or 1860 census records http://www.rootsweb.com/~txelpaso/Census1860.html) show Q/Cuaron ancestors. At this URL, Item 338 Pedro Quaron Eugenio " Petra " are shown as Indians
