Looking for family---
My father is Joseph Anthony Cuadra Sr. from SanFrancisco.
Grandfather, Adolpho Cuadra, born in Grenada Nicaragua and he married Mary Cardenas Cuadra and settled in SF.
Grandpa's mother was from Ireland, Mathilde Downing.

My siblings and I are in Racine, Wisconsin. Anyone think they have a thread to our family?

Hello: I have news about your family. Your great grand mother Matilde Downing was not from Ireland. She was born in Saint Louis, MO from Sabina Selva -a Nicaraguan- and Alexander Downing a colonel of Irish descent. Nicaraguan presidents such as Vicente Cuadra Lugo (your great great grand father) Benjamin Lacayo Sacasa, Juan Bautista Sacasa, Luis Somoza Debayle and Anastasio Somoza Debayle, all share one common ancestor: Jose Antonio de la Quadra born in 1718 in Granada, Nicaragua. The origen of the name Cuadra or Quadra or De la Quadra originated in the province of Vizcaya in Spain. One of the noblest of families that came to America, they settled in Cuba, Peru, Chile and Nicaragua. In the early exploration of the British Columbia you will find a Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra and George Vancouver's wonderful relationship despite their goverment differences and how Quadra was the best and noblest of friends. Upon his death, Vancouver was in great distress and his men cried as if they had lost one of their own. To honor their friendship an island was named Quadra Vancouver that was later shortened to Vancouver, but was finally named Quadra Island. Such is the noble character of the Cuadra name.

In reply to the post of Aj40ibc....in your post you meantion the names Cuadra and Bautista. I have both of the last names my father is Cuadra and my mother is Bautista they are both from a small town called Ario De Rayon in the state of Michoacan in the country of Mexico my father told me that the Cuadra family came from Spain but he did not know much about it. My family lives in St.Louis, Missouri.I am 27 years old You mentioned the countries that the Cuadra ansestors migrated to and I assume that somehow they ended up in Mexico also I am hoping that I have some tipe of connection with you r story being that I have both of those last names that you mentioned. My best wishes. Maria Cuadra Bautista
