I was just browsing the net when I found this... my father, Michael Stibor wrote a little bit about the family history, but I would like to know more, like how... and why... was the name changed from Ctibor to Stibor? And who did it? I don't know a lot about my family, so if you could please help me, that would be great. Thank you!

My great-grandparents were Frank and Anna Ctibor. They moved to the Milwaukee area before the turn of the (20th) century. One of their sons, Alfred Ctibor, was my grandfather, and my father was Howard Ctibor. Our part of the family changed the spelling in 1945, just before I was born.
My great grandfather owned a tavern and wildlife "zoo" in the area that later became Muskego Beach, and later Dandelion Park. It's now part of the town of Muskego. My grandfather, Alfred, died in 1978. His wife, my grandmother Leona, died in 1975, and my father, Howard, died in 2001. My wife, Gail, and I live on the South Side of Milwaukee, although, until 3 years ago, I was a lifelong North Sider. I have a daughter, Anne, and a son, Michael.
My grandfather came from a family of 7 or 8 children. The only ones I met were Uncles Bill and Ed, and Aunt Pat, whose real name, inexplicably, was Francine. (They never did explain it to me...) Uncle Bill would be your Grandfather. I remember talking with him at my grandfather's funeral. He would have been in or near his 90's then, with a handshake as firm as any I've ever felt.
My Mother, Bernice Stibor (nee Schweigert) is living in West Allis, a Milwaukee suburb, and will be 87 next month.

Hello, Dan:

Howard Stibor was my cousin. I am sorry about his passing. Frank and Anna Ctibor were my grandparents, both deceased in 1919. Their children were:

Anna, Christina, Frank Jr., Frances (Pat), William, Edwin, Alfred, Gertrude, George, and the youngest, Dorothy (my mother). They also had a baby, Clarence, who died in infancy. Eleven children, in all.

Anyone who would like photos of Frank and Anna Ctibor, and/or nine of the eleven children, e-mail me your address at:

Fluf5@mail.com

I will send copies of the photos, plus any other information you would like.

Do you have any info. on the Anna who married Frank Ctibor? Somewhere I saw reference to her last name being Rissi and her parents were Mathias & Anna. I'm wondering if she could be an older sister of a Jacob Ressie/Rissi that I have. I can give you additional info. if needed. Thanks!

Linda

Hi,
I was surfing the net when I found this board. My name is Thor Stibor and from what I can tell, Josef James Stibor would be my great grandfather. His only son, Joseph Elmer Stibor was my grandfather. My father, also Joseph James Stibor died when I was a boy and I never knew much about the stibor history. If you have any information, that would be great! I do know that both my father and grandfather were very proud of their bohemian background and I recall my grandfather's sister, Bessie, visiting us in California during the 70's. I can be reached at thor.stibor@gcccd.edu.

Thanks,
