Pal/Paul Csupka/Supka/Tsupka/Cupko/Chupko
I am looking for any information on Pal/Paul Csupka/Supka/Tsupka/Cupko/Chupko. He immigrated to the US in 1903. He married Maria Raptos about 1906 and settled in Johnstown, Pennsylvania where he was a coal miner. Their children were Mary, Helen, Michael, Nicholas, Catherine, Elizabeth, and Julia.

Re: Pal/Paul Csupka/Supka/Tsupka/Cupko/Chupko
Found that my husband's family was from Sumiac, Slovakia. Seman (Sam) Chupka (dob 16 Feb 1895) came to US in 1911. His parents were listed as Andy Chupka and Julia Rabat on his marriage certificate. He lived in Johnstown PA and worked in coal mine.
Another person named Simon Chupka, also of Johnstown came from Sumiac (Declaration of Intention papers).
Please write if you think there may be a a connection.

It's possible there's a connection, but with the information provided it's difficult to tell. Paul Pal) had a sister named Juliana, who came to the US in 1909. She married a Matyas Kapcsak (Kapchak). They also lived in Johnstown.

Re: Pal/Paul Csupka/Supka/Tsupka/Cupko/Chupko
I have just started looking into this family. My in-laws say that they remember visiting some relatives (cousins) in Johnstown but they do not remember their names . One of the families had a farm and they remembered drinking the non-pasteurized milk and not liking it.
They attended St. Mary's Greek Rite Catholic Church in Johnstown, PA.
I'm going to be going on vacation next month and will be ordering church records from Sumiac, if I find any type of connection I'll write again.

Karen,
I'd be very interested in knowing what you find. I've tried researching this family, but I've been finding it rather difficult. Are you ordering church records from LDS, or elsewhere?

Re: Pal/Paul Csupka/Supka/Tsupka/Cupko/Chupko
Karen,
Several years ago I was sending off to the Social Security Administration for any Mary Raptos or Mary Chupko (Mary Raptos married Paul Chupka in PA). They were only $7 a piece back then. I have two that don't match anyhting in my files.
1. For a Mary Raptos, name at birth was Mary Birka, father's name Michele Raptos and mother's name Anna Kubek. Born 8/22/1896 in Czechoslovakia.
2. Mary Chupko born 1/12/1887 in Czechoslovakia. Father's name Andrew Saksa, mother Anna Lazar.
If any of this matches anything in your file I'd be happy to send them along.
